Check engine light and handbrake

Hello Z believers,

I have a 1991 300zx 2plus2 114k non-turbo

The check engine light comes on only when I pull the handbrake.
I know that I have some emission components disconnected/removed (previous owner) like the canister purge valve solenoid is gone and it has a aftermaket cold air intake. Is that how the check engine shows on a 300zx? Only with the handbrake or is something else going on?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Nothing in the braking system causes a CEL, you need to run the ECU codes and figure out what codes the computer is throwing.

If it really happens only when the hand brake is applied, doesn't it have to have something to do with it? Like some weird short or something?
