Daily Driver?

Well, Winter is coming up and I wont have my 300ZXTT Done before then, and my 280ZX will just rust all to hell. So I'm thinking of getting another 300ZX as a new good daily driver for winter and even longer after that.

So mainly I'm wondering how they handle in winter, my friend drove his 300ZX all over last winter so I cant see them being to bad.

lol

They are horrific. Snow tires required.

Yes I've done it... and I'll never do it again.

Winter cars are things like Geo Tracker 4x4s... small, cheap, and handle the snow GREAT.

You know... I didn't really want a Tracker either, but I mentioned that car for a reason. I ****ing LOVED it after I got it. Most reliable and fun non-fast car I've ever owned. With 4WD disengaged on a 2dr model, you can force the bitch sideways and maintain a slide forever, because the tiny wheelbase prevents the back end from getting beyond your control... with 4WD engaged, you can't get the thing to lose grip even if you tried. Handles snow better than my Blazer ever could.

Not to mention, you can do this in summer:

Heh I might look into one of those I guess. For my current job I have to drive 27 to and from work. and while my 280ZX gets good gas mileage I have no heat at all and that means no defrost in winter. that and my AC controls are all screwed up.

Oh and, I'm not suicidal, nor stupid. I wont be doing that. Actually in summer it would probably stay parked around the back of my house lol

If you can afford one in nice enough condition, an early 90's toyota 4x4 with the 5 speed and the v6. I have literally never been able to get it stuck, except for the times where I was in 6 feet of snow or high centered. The only thing I have done to it are a set of 32's and after it caught fire the second time a fire extinguisher.

Maybe I should look for a subaru that has AWD, I dont want a suv/truck. I've never been a fan of them really (sept for the kei truck)

Perhaps this is enough reason for him to look at other vehicles:

Alright, the first time was when I had a cracked injector caused by me, the second time the fuel tank was killed by a rock and it hit the fuel pump. Nothing on toyota's part.

I took it to 94mph and it was stable as a rock, gets me 19mpg around town too.

i have an 88 cherokee for my winter car, which unfortunately has become my summer car as well.

it gets like 250 to the tank as a daily driver stop and go and what not, and about 300 when i use it for work.

I know you said youre not looking for a truck. but you can get them dirt cheap.

I paid 300 for it, its got 140k on it, 4x4, auto. Its real good in the winter. I have gotten it stuck before though, which sucks, but it was my own fault...

How much is a N/A 300ZX Motor worth? I think I might put an N/A motor into my 300ZXTT till I can get all the parts to do the full TT swap properly And have a car to drive in the mean time.

it depends on where you get it from.

id check craigslist for one that was pulled for a tt conversion.

ive seen them on craigslist for like 250.

if its just for a few thousand miles or whatever, i would get one off of craigslist and just drop it in and wouldnt bother doing anything to it.

from a shop or any kind of import place youre looking at like 750+

Well the thing is I also need the harness and ECU as both of my TT ones are entirely fried and long sense removed. So if I can get all the stuff for under $1K Perfect!

my 280ZX is about to kick the bucket and I NEED another car ASAP thats why I'm doing this too...

I dont know. Its easier to find the parts for a TT, no one really downgrades.

But if you plan on putting all of that work into an na, why dont you just put it all into the tt?

I forgot what your other post was like, maybe its just to far gone. I think it said you were pulling it.

I would just find a 500 dollar beater. Ive owned 3 cherokees and paid under 400 each for them, for a few months its really not that bad. It beats putting a grand into a car to just get rid of the parts later on. You wouldnt really make that much back on NA parts after you swap to the tt again. I would just pick up a cheap car.

this ones a hundred bucks, the puters probably only about hundred as well.

the biggest issue would be finding a motor, id imagine you dont really want to drop 700+ on a motor that youre taking out 6 months down the road.

Well I dont expect to have all the TT parts I need for another year at how much my job pays me. It doesnt help that everything on the TT is damaged/missing the engine itself is fine but everything is kinda ruined.

That Subi I was gonna get doesnt run apparently. it just quit on him. Tho from what I read about subis the timing belt probably just let go of the crank gear and it jsut needs a new belt.
