ECU Chip Replacement

Ok I'm doing some work on a friends ECU and were trying to remove and replace the Stock chip with a new one. BUT, I'm not 100% if I cant actually do this. Does anyone have any tips? Or would it be a better Idea to send it to a pro?

Is the ECU socketed? If you don't know the answer, just buy a JWT or ZTuner ECU.

No the ECU is not socketed, The stock Chip (or Prom w/e you call it) Is soldered to the board

EPROM

I still recommend buying an ECU flat out from JWT or ZTuner (there's a reason neither of these companies advertise the EPROM separately - too risky for most people to install the chip themselves). But ultimately, if you're good with a soldering iron, just de-solder the old chip, put the new one in, re-solder... but you should make damn sure that none of the connections cross else you can do some real damage.

If you want to be cool about it, get the proper socket and socket the ECU yourself so you never have to worry about soldering it again... if you have to swap in a different chip, just pull and replace.

By the way, if this EPROM you're trying to install isn't from JWT or ZTuner, I'd recommend selling it on eBay... no general ECU program would ever go in my car unless it was developed by one of those two.

Not my Z, not my EPROM. Idk what he said it was... but it sounded like an offbrand and he said he got it for cheap. I'll talk him into getting one from JWT or Ztuner. If he wont. um SOL I guess for him
