Hello fellow Z drivers. Havent been on for a while now, but glad to be back. I went to LA this past weekend and left my car at home. I started up my car today and heard this ticking noise. It had a few problems before, but this was the first when it comes to ticking noises. It bugged the crap out of me. Any ideas of what it could be? I checked previous posts and came up with the "lifter tick." Can someone run me through what this is and how it could be fixed. Thanks a lot.

Random question: I want to change the oil in my car. I have been putting Mobile 1 Fully Synthetic 10-40 oil. My Z32 has a little over 186k miles on it. Any other suggestions besides mobile 1? I want it to run smoother. Thanks again

from what Ive read, valve tap is pretty common.

I think people say use a slightly thicker oil?

Im sure, just search for it, its on this forum somewhere.

 

i have the same sound coming from my z31 i have no idea what it could be lol.

 

Stick with Mobil1 - it's good oil.

And to remedy lifter tick, hop on an empty highway when nobody's around, pop it into 4th, and wind out the gear... high oil pressure (like when you put a large load on the car during high-gear acceleration) will usually force air bubbles out of the lifters.

 

i've just had a great experience using rislone to remedy my severe lifter tick. it went from very loud to usually not audible at all.
