Hard Knocking sound when starting to Rev

Bought a very nice project today, interior is mint, Automatic unfortunate . i'll do a swap down the road, but I knew buying this car was going to need work. its a 92 TT, its in the shop right now because I'm way to scared to drive it until its safe to drive. ( Don't want to blow engine ). Everytime it starts it's okay, idle is fine. when you start to rev its a hard knocking sound like hard, previous owner said something about the bottom bearing on the engine of some sort or something around there. anyone have any ideas? ill post pics once I get back from shop, running a full diagnostics on the car so I can prepare for the $$$ spending. haha.

BTW i'm in AZ, and it's at Gregs right now.

Welcome to ZDriver! Sounds like you bought a Z you decided to love.

First, you have a factory service manual (FSM) or you can DL one free at XenonZ32.com Reference Other cool docs there too.

Guys here will refer to the FSM a lot so get familiar with it. Full of inspections and troubleshooting procedures that are easy to follow. Worth your time as a new Z owner.

Sounds like a good idea not to drive her until you at least solve the current issue. Run the diagnostics you can and come back with the codes, etc. Our Z32 guys will have some good input for you. Report your total mileage and your sense of the previous owner's maintenance if you can. Did you buy from a pro or a bonehead? Good to know.

Thanks and welcome!

Thanks for the welcome!

This is my second Z32 I sold my other one for a g35 but I got into some drug trafficking trouble and they took my baby away so I was like eh I'll go back to the other beauty haha!

Anyways a update it's a rod knock and I need a bottom end replacement so they say, Greg's from AZ sent me to ADS but they're charging way too much. Would it be easier and cheaper to just rebuild bottom end or just find a new engine to swap? TT of course. Anyone help? I found some engines but wonder if my bottom end is still maintainable.

Hey, I'm new to this site but I've done a fair amount of research on doing a TT swap! I have a 1990 NA. Theres a lot of info out there for people interested in doing TT swaps. Price ranges I've seen out there people say the swap cost can range anywheres between $3000-$7000. $3000 also being extremely cheap and these prices are based on doing all the work yourself. People say buy a full JDM front clip then you have everything you need for the swap and you're not tracking down all these little parts and pieces you will need! There's alot more to doing a TT swap than just swapping the engine in! but there is also a ton of helpful information to help guide you through the swap.
