Help with Buying a Z32

My Z31 Turbo is still running great but I really need to upgrade to a Z32. Found a great one 2006 5spd with nearly 30K on the ODO, asking $22K. I still need to check KBB but what's required to be done at that mileage. The Z31 required some deep stuff be done at 60K. 30K was basically regular service. What's the deal with the Z32 @ 30K?

No, I mean a Z32 Twin Turbo. Why? Did I mention something odd?

yeah. the z32 was not made past 1996 in the US. and $22k is in the neighborhood of what you could get a z33 for.

... not if the guy has him convinced it's a 2006 model year...

Sorry for the mistype - I meant a 1996, not 2006. Even in excellent condition with 29K on the ODO, KBB lists it at just under $15K. I wonder why all the "good" 1996 low mileage (up to 40K) ones I've seen are all in the $20K+ price range. Are they that sought out?

sometimes low miles is bad to. or could be fake. if you dont drive a car very much they can build up quite a bit of carbon, run bad gas/oil more often. just stuff can go crappy with out adequate ddriving. being a 96 though, its only 11 years old so it probably wont be as susceptable. go and make sure you take it for a LONG test drive. make sure it reaches full operaing temperature and doesnt change in how it drives. honestly though, even though he might be able to get 22k for it depending on the area he is in, its really not going to happen. if its in mint condition inside and out and runs great, id say 15-18k. im sure you can talk him down. also do a search i think there is a write up on here of what to do when buying a Z32 (the inspection and test drive you should do)

KBB = still living in the 90's.

A car is only worth what people will pay for it. If KBB says a car is worth $50k... and no one will pay $50k... is it worth $50k?

KBB / NADA said my 240Z was worth $10k... I got $3k for it.

is it a TT?
be aware if u purchase a 96 TT that modding it will be minimal since the deletion of the variable timing.
If u plan on keeping it completely stock, then i'd say go for it. If u even have the slightest inclination to mod it, look for a 95 and older.

Thanks Riz. Yes it's a TT and no, I don't plan to mod it at all - maybe +1 or +2 on rims/tire package, that's it. I just want something to replace my tired old 89T (Z31).

i was just trying to clarify a little. you said minimal, and then slightest inclination.

some people dont even know there is a chip out for the 96s.

and, i forgot to say VVT has nothing to do with peak HP. OBDII is why further modding the 96 sucks

I may be the most unfortunate Z32 to-be-owner. My top three were sold within hours of my contacting the sellers. Infact, they all were just waiting for the check to clear!!! I have found others, but the closest is almost 500 miles from me. I need help from you folks in GA, CO, IL, MO and CA. I will need someone to go check these cars for me. Please, let me know if you're anywhere close to Loganville, GA; Springfield, MO; Evanston, IL; Tallahassee, FL; Los Angeles, CA and Parker, CO!!!! Yep, I'm almost desperate but I think the Z enthusiast spirit in you all understand my drive. E-mail me if you can be of assistance in checking these rides. Thanks in advance.

I don't mind paying you for gas, that's fair. I just PM'ed you some details.

Hey... I seriously searched for 4 months to find my Z, and I ended up flying to Denver, CO and driving the 1,650 miles back to Harrisburg, PA. Yes, that's 1650 miles one way to get my Z... but It's MINE, and you really get a feel for the car after driving it that far. It cost me a bit in gas, (about $250), and don't forget the speeding ticket. But it was worth it. BUT... I also was prepared to spend the $160 for the return ticket if it wasn't what I was looking for. I asked the guy alot of questions, and not just by email. I got his phone number and talked to him. Don't be afraid to ask the important questions. Run a CarFax, it's worth the $15. Do your research, and you won't be the most nervous Future Z owner. You'll just be excited!

Enjoy the Ride.
