Hi, lookin for some advice
Hi, first I'd like to introduce myself, I'm Tyler, and I've been in love with skylines for my whole life, as you can see by my name. I currently have a camaro, but am very bored with it, and seeing as how I cant get a skyline to southern California without much hassle I'm looking to get a TT 300ZX instead. But I have a few questions, what should I be looking for when looking at these cars? Anything specific like common problems with turbo seals leaking, things like that.. Also how close mechanicaly to the RB26 is the VG30? I know forums are an invaluable tool for things like this, and I look forward to being able to participate on here more once I get my Z.
Thanks,
Tyler
Thanks,

Mechanically, the VG30DETT and RB26DETT have nearly nothing in common other than both being internal combustion 6-cylinders with DOHC. The VG30DETT is a bigger engine and makes more low-end power. Power potential is about the same, but space makes it more difficult for the VG30DETT to make dyno-queen-esque numbers.
Search twinturbo.NET for information concerning common issues on the Z32 (off the top of my head, if the exhaust puffs blue smoke, the turbos are probably on their way out [and NOT easy to replace, requiring engine removal] and a power steering leak are among things to look for).

tt.net is great for searching but often people don't feel like answering more simple questions. most posters only bother with more interesting ones, while on here, just about any thread that we can answer we will answer, even if it's just to say search. i find that a good balance between this site and tt.net keeps my car in tip top shape!
