I don't recommend JDM engines unless you absolutely have to. There's no guarantee of what you're getting, because laws in Japan basically make it so that there's little incentive to care for the engine (they have mileage limits [well, kilometerage limits, if that's a word] that mandate that they have to sell the car or replace the engine at a certain age, so why should they stay on top of routine maintenance if they're just gonna replace it anyway?). This is why most companies who offer warranties will only honor them in the condition that you replace things like the oil pump and entire timing belt kit.
And without a Japanese equivalent to Carfax, you're taking the company's word on the actual mileage of the engine.

Agreed for the most part. But Elite doesnt require a timing belt change to honor the warranty, when I asked about it the guy recommended it but said he would replace the motor if there were any issues with it. I did minimal work to first one I got which im sure you saw, and I wound up bringing it back.
JDMs are hit and miss as Ive learned, but so far mines running pretty strong just basically being dropped in. I will change the timing built and recommend it be changed if you get a JDM.

JDMEngineimports.com will warranty our engines as well... We don't ask you to replace anything. what I advise everyone that buys a motor from any company if you can afford buy a timing belt kit, cam seals as well as front and rear main seals. Cause if your like me with my Z32 you don't want to do the work twice and when would you say would be the 70,000 mile timing belt change? makes since huh? So far we haven't ever had to replace or take an engine back (knock on wood) but we stand by our Products.

i bought a JDM motor for JSPECMOTORS.com. it was an SR20DET for my friends S13. it works wonderfully and hes never had a problem with it. i ordered myself the VG30DETT for my Z31 swap im doing, and honestly though i havent turned it on, its guaranteed to turn on.
