Leaky valve cover

So i got off the phone with the dealership that sold me my car. They told me oil leaks on nissan engines are common and that even if it were to be fixed it would come back in 3 months how true is this ?
(He said it was a leaky valve cover)

lol You need to take that car to someone who knows what they're doing... because if it's done right, it'll be years before it leaks again.

Quit using their crappy service, and seriously take it to an *expert.*

Yeah, because dealerships are ****ing retarded. I'd NEVER take my Z to a dealership for work, even if it were free, because I know I'd be spending more later on to correct the things they ****ed up.

I don't think the other (cheaper) place is familiar with the Z32. They don't realize that valve cover work requires removing the upper plenum, which is a bitch of a job if it hasn't been simplified (EGR delete, PCV re-route, water bypass, etc). A $200 quote tells me they think the job will take two hours... and on a Z without such simplification, it will take two hours for an inexperienced shop just to get to the valve covers.

Things like that aren't uncommon... I was once quoted $160 to replace my power steering pump... they then popped the hood, looked around, and promptly called me to tell me there was NO way they could do the power steering pump for $160.

I've heard bad reviews of Z Fever, though...

... so don't take it there either.

Take it to Harry at ZTuner
http://ztuner.com/

or Ash
http://ashspecz.com/

I'd go with ZTuner, of the two.

And welcome to Z ownership - get used to those kinds of prices. There's a reason we all end up Z32 experts - we start doing the work ourselves, because it's too expensive to pay people.

Come to think of it, if they were gonna do the service for free and only charge for parts, I'll bet they were trying to purposely deter you from having them do the work. They'll make less than $10 on a gasket or RTV (two valve covers have gaskets, the other two use liquid gaskets i.e. RTV), and it'll take them a day to complete.
