Mint 96 Maintenance
I have a 96z with 49000 miles on it. All original equipment. No engine / other problems of any kind. Its getting toward the 60,000 mile check. Should I change the timing belt? Besides a tune is there anything else I should do?
Thanks for the help.

Response to Me.
It seems that many people here at Z Driver may read your Thread, but not too many seem to think its worthwhile answering (a request for help). I guess, if you want to know whether or not you got a good deal on a car, and everyone is looking, you may get a response, but other than that it seems pretty quiet. Hello. Is anybody listening and perhaps could spare the effort of answering so lame a question as mine?

agreed
the posters on this forum seem kind of lame. The page itself isnt too bad though. As for the 60k maintinance. Are you kidding? you have one of the 400! Zs in the world that is that new and it only has 60k miles. You must have spent a small fortune to buy the car. We can assume that you have a college education. Why WHY would you not replace the belt? It takes about 10 mins. Cut the old one in half longways (making two belts) and slip off the outer half. Slip on the new one and cut the rest off of the old one. At 60k the water pump still has 40+ and you dont have to worry about a snapping belt anymore that is going to take your 10.5 - 1 compression and send a valve through your hood.
SOOO if it is this easy and you are smart enough to have the money to get this car, then im confused. Either you won it, found it, or need to stop lying on the forum.....
What the H3ll.

I agree with changing the timing belt, but I disagree with not changing the water pump. While you are going to the trouble of changing the belt you might as well change the pump as it is common for them to fail. while you are at it the tensioners could probably do with a good look. You might consider changing the plugs as well. I know they are supposed to be good for 100,000km (60,000miles) but in practice it's good to change them at about 80,000km (50,000miles). When I changed mine I found that the wrong ones were fitted, fit Platnium type plugs.
If you are willimg to spend a little time and money on maintenance for you Z you will have a car that will last forever.
It is not unusual for Z's not to have done much milage, I bought my '92NA in 2001 and it had done 84,000km.
