Motor Help
Hi, I have a 1990 300zx N/A, that i bought without a motor. So i bought a JDM stock VG30DE motor, and am wondering how to tell exactly what year car the motor came from? and any other specific info on it for the swap

Look on the Side of the Heads at the Front Above the Exhaust Manifold.. you will have a 'Casting Number'.. that will be something like 30P or 40P, or something like that.. this will tell the Type of head, and LIKELY if it has new or Old style of Injectors and Intake .. get the Numbers and Post them..
LIKELY a JDM motor will not have Missmatched Heads/Intake/Injector..
AND.. look at the Injector Plugs.. if the Plug is a 'Perfect Rectangle' then it's a Old Style Injector ( Likely then Old Heads/Intake ), if the Injector Plug is an 'Oval Ish Rectangle' then it's the new Style Injectors/Intake/heads..
Old Injector Style is BAD.. as the Fuel is exposed to the Injector Coil, and will eat it up.. the New Style Injectors are Insulated from the Fuel..
When the injector 'Style' changed, also the Shape Changed, and the Fuel Rail/Intake and Head changed to Match..
You can Convert the 'Old Style Engine' to run New Style Injectors.. just not really cheap.. so if you have Old Injectors, and 6 of them are Good ( Ohm Check OK at 13 Ish Ohms, then keep them and make sure the Ignition Harness has been Modified to remove the 12 Volts from the Injector Coils when the Car is Off, and you should be OK..
NOTHING that I know of will tell you ( Me ) what the year of the motor is.. the Motor Number does not match anything that I know of.. ( yet )

Ok ill check that tonight and post it up. and my wire harness that is in my car does not have connectors that match the female ends on the motor..(some are same some are different) how different were the TT harness and the stock N/A? cause the guy i bought it from was gunna do a TT swap but then quit.

the TT is an NA with Extra Stuff.. so the Wire Harness is the Same EXCEPT it has more things on it..
90-92NA Old njectors, Old CAS, Old Style Transistor Pack ( Pass Side of Cam Sprocket Cover ) and AIV pipes for the Cats.. Old Plug for the Air Cond Compressor.
93-95NA New Injectors, New CAS Style, New Transistor Pack without Patch Plug, still mounted same place, NO AIV's or Valves for them.. New Air Conditioner Plug,
TT's used Old Style Injectors through '94 ( I Think ), and SOMETHING about the Convertable was different also..
Need to figure out what kind of 'Fuel Pump Controller' you have.. NA's are 2 Speed, TT's are 3 Speed .. it just matters on the Computer HARDWARE that you need.. if the Fuel Pump Controller has been converted to a 3 speed, then you will need to run a TT ECU ( Not a TT program, just the ECU ).. if the Car still has a 2 Speed Fuel Pump Controller, then a NA ECU needs to run the Car..
You can run a TT program in a NA ECU, you can run a NA Program in a TT ECU.. The Program NEEDS to match the Car.. IE Injector Size, Number of MAF's and the Configuration.. If you have AIV's ( Cat Air Feeder Tubes )..
You can Sockett the ECU, and play yourself, or purchase stuff already done..

Ok thanx.. ill keep you posted.. And for later would it better to single turbo the N/A or i have 302 5.0 L that I was thinkin about doin a complete swap but i want to drive the car for a while so Ive heard about people doing both but don't know which way i should head

To each his own..
The NA's are Doggy.. ( Slow ).. I like them.. no real headaches or maintenance issues.. and the 300's are just about the most comfortable car I have ever driven.. so I stay NA..
Swaps and Conversions NEVER work out as planned, cost twice as much, and should be left for the 'Second Car' ststus..

If all works out like it should.. the 10Y heads are from a Late Style NA Motor.. the Injectors should be Late Style, and everything else will be late style..
BUT your Car will have the Early Style Injector, CAS, PTU, A/C Plug.. Now might be a good time to get a NEW Engine Harness.. ( $400 ) if you get it for a Late Style NA, then ALL will just Plug and Play..
MIGHT consider removing the AIV's and hardware.. then make sure the ECU is reprogrammed to reflect the AIV's being gone, else you will have Idle Issues, and will not pass smog..
You have the Right Motor.. just the Wrong wireharness to stuff it in your car.. you can just change out the Plugs.. or pick up a new harness.. they now have aftermarket wiring for these cars..
