New Idea

So i am not a fan of aftermarket alarm systems. they seem to end up causing more trouble than they are worth. i like having the factory system, but i wish it had more sensors than just door. like shock, proximity, glass break, etc. i did a little research and have been poking around the wiring diagram, and it seems like those sensors could be added to the factory alarm. could probably even add in a "warn away" thing with a relay. i'm gonna keep looking at this and see what i come up with, but so far it seems pretty feasable.

2nd. I've talked to a couple alarm shops in the area (including one whose owner I'm friends with), and none of them were willing to try installing keyless entry on my factory system - something about how our locks work (not actually having a "lock" button) that makes them difficult to incorporate with the stock alarm, if I recall correctly.

And entropy31, if you found a way to do shock sensors, I'd be very interested. When my car was broken into, if the thieves had the sense to not open the door, the alarm would've never gone off. They could've just popped the t-top off after breaking the glass and done all the same ****, so shock sensors would've been a nice feature.

hmmm, i figure if i tap the trigger leads form the shock sensor in to the anti theft module with the door sensor wires, and then find a 12v line i can tap to power the sensor, it should work. and if i wanted a 2 stage sensor, one that beeps once when you just bump the car a little, i could set up the 1st stage lead on a relay tapped into the theft warning horn.

what do you guys think?

I say write it up.
take pics and show where you solder and where you make your taps for the system to work.

Why would you want to spend the money on a prox sensor to a factory alarm? That's pretty useless, man. I don't mean to say it's not a creative idea, but a proximity sensor means nothing if you don't know the alarm is going off anyway... A factory remote only has about 50 feet in range, anyway. I have to say, I work in mobile electronics and we install aftermarket alarms with lifetime warranties the things are so bulletproof. I have one myself, and I never have problems with it. Just make it easy for yourself.

man we have toyotas and the factory remote will lock/unlock/panic them from way more than 50 ft. If you're talking about the Z ones then maybe you should upgrade the antenna or signal strength. I think its a good idea. I'd much rather have the factory alarm than a cobra-mega-viper-computron alarm system installed by almost any mobile electronics installer. I took one of my dad's company trucks to a professional once (to get stereo put in) and when we got it back the dome light wouldn't go out. I tried flipping the switch and the piece just wiggles (you could feel it wasn't turning anything). They broke the switch and just wired it always on, its a FREAKEN dome light. Anyway, long story short, I'm an excellent 12v electrician (doesn't take much. I got it from living on the boat) and I know that since I'm working on MY car, I won't be prone to cutting corners.

Plus, I'd rather have a prox/shock sensor that set the alarm off than paged me. I think hes got a good idea going, wish shelby's Z had a factory alarm

i wish i had a better alarm on my 300 when i had it. parked it up on top of teh hill ONCE only ONCE for school and it got dicked with, car was damn near flawless sept a small crack in the lip, then some dick holes tried to steal my rim. this is what i sould make of it. they jacked it up in order to steal the rims, didnt look to see i had wheel locks on it though first. *** hats, then they took 2 terrace bricks, set them on there back and lowered the car on it, but 2 semi circle dents, perfect to teh shape of the 2 terrace bricks i found right nezt to it, right in the side rockers where they look like rhino lineing. yeah.... that pised me off, the school wouldnt help and that was the only place that didnt have security cameras.... tehn the cop and deans tried to tell me i put the dents there when i pulled in and i "hit" the terrace bricks... im like, dude, thats physically implossible first off, the bricks are to tall and my car is to low to put the dents at the height they were at. ****...
