You car is only making on a good day 180WHP, if you haven't changed the timing belt now would be the time, as well as a tune up.
I don't know what you expect a 180HP 3300 pound to feel like, you want to feel fast go take it to a road course and watch that little honda push itself right off the track i the first corner.

preludes are geared for around town driving and have some pretty short gears that make them accelerate fast, but because something beats you in a strait line doesn't make a car faster then another.

Hi Marv,
I have a '90 300zx n/a. I bought her 3 years ago from one of my son's friends. It got squirrely in the rain on him and he parked it for a year.
My son is my mechanic and he said the first thing I needed to do was to do the 120,000 mile tune up. This includes timing belts, pulleys, water pump, etc... See link. This is the one I got. My son said to go with the underdrive pulleys. It would give me more ponies.
Nissan OEM 300ZX 120,000 Mile Timing Belt - Basic Kit w/ UR Pulley - Nissan performance parts
Coz at Concept Z Performance is my best friend.
When I first got her, she would bog then surge every time I tromped on the go pedal. After some research and tinkering, my son determined that the wiring harnesses were probably bad. At nearly 25 years old and with the heat in the engine bay, the wiring gets very brittle and can create a whole host of problems. We changed out both harnesses. It really made a difference but it is not a cure all.
One thing you have to understand, in a car this age; you are not replacing parts - you are replacing systems. Right now, I am awaiting parts from CZP to rebuild my power steering system. I already have the new pump sitting in my garage. On certain things I ONLY buy new, like the ps pump. We tried rebuilding the original one and that didn't help. So for this order I have a rebuilt rack (New are not available anywhere), the steering joint, high pressure and return hoses. I contacted Coz and he set me up with what I needed because there are a couple of different configurations of high pressure hoses that can go on the 300zx. This order also includes a Z speed performance aluminum engine cover. The plastic one that sits under the engine broke apart. I am also replacing the cowl between the windshield and the hood. These get broken to bits because people think you can pull the battery without removing the cowl first. DO NOT make that mistake if your right side cowl is intact. I'm getting the cowl kit which includes both cowl grills and the tabs to hold them in. This is $300 by itself. My next purchases are going to be the T top seals ($250 each side) and the window moldings.
Also, in the last month; my son installed a new exhaust system in her. I got Stillen stainless steel 2.5" headers and Labree ss test pipes and cat back exhaust with x pipes.
She sounds phenomenal. Before installing the exhaust I thought that she was all used up. She had no real power when standing on the loud pedal. She would go, but felt like she was laboring. Alot of that was because the cats were rotted out and there was an exhaust leak that was getting worse and worse. When the exhaust system got replaced, she started running. Before, I had to stand on the gas seemingly forever to get up to 6000 rpm. Now, she runs up to 7000 rpm before I know it. She's got power to burn.
That's another thing that can make your car run crappy, is an old exhaust. If the cats are eating themselves, she can't breathe.
I hope some of this has helped.

Do the Maintenance.. it's required..
Then get a chipped ECU. That will make the Biggest Difference.. Just swapped the JWT ECU from the '95 NA into the '92 NA.. brought it right to life..
Now I need to hunt through my BIN Files for an 8 Bit NA BIN to stuff in the '92 ECU..
