newly interested in a Z, some basic questions on options, etc.
I'm a former 94 RX-7 twin turbo owner, now a family man. Looking to get back into something fun as a second car. I love the early 90s car styling (much prefer the look of the 300ZX to the newer 350Z/370Z cars). Must be getting old.
I checked out a '90 300ZX NA over the weekend that I almost fell in love with - until I hit the accelerator. It was selling cheap, interior was immaculate, only needed some minor work (brakes, exhaust I think).
However, the performance was not what I had hoped. I knew it wouldn't be close to my RX-7, but I was surprised it did not have much "go" at all. I went home and looked at the specs and ended up shocked that 0-60 was't even close to my current V6 RAV4 which explains my disappointment.
In any case, the car sold. I'm disappointed because I otherwised loved the car and it was such a good deal. Love the t-tops! Nonetheless, my search continues and now I've convinced myself I should only be looking at twin turbos. I'm not into modifications at all - want something as stock and clean as possible (mechanical and aesthetics).
I'm wondering if someone could help me determine what options are possible, so I know when I'm looking:
- I believe most or all twin-turbos I find are cloth. Was leather available on the turbo?
- I believe all twin-turbos I find are 2 seaters. Was 2+2 available on the turbo?
My ideal car is manual, twin-turbo, red, black leather, 2+2. My max budget is around KBB however. Unfortunately it seems most decent ones are selling above KBB.
Any other tips or advice would be greatly appreciated as well.
Thanks!
Hope to be a Z owner soon.

Leather is common on Twin Turbos - where are you looking? I rarely see cloth TT's.
No 2+2 Twin Turbos in the US. All Twin Turbos in the US are 2-seat t-tops.
And clean ones should be above KBB, since they're becoming collectible.
Browse TwinTurbo.NET classifieds... you'll find good deals on occasion. But if you want speed (turbos), you're sacrificing back seats.
