Spark plug change necessary?

Hi guys,

I just picked up a '90 2+2 TT that hasnt been started since '98, the motor has under 20k miles on it, do you guys think the spark plugs need to be changed or anything else?
The shop i'm bringing it to is trustworthy but I'm afraid they don't work with these cars as often as I'd like, they're pulling the motor out to replace the EFI harness for me so I'm trying to get as much as possible out of the way while the motor is out.

Thanks in advance.

lol you need to take that car elsewhere. Motor pulls aren't necessary to do the harness (though it does make it easier).

If you have the resources, it's not a bad idea to do new plugs (NGK PLATINUMS ONLY)... but it's probably not needed.

haha i wish i could take it someplace else, but i haven't found anyone else thats willing to work with the car and it would be a miracle if i found a specialty Z shop in my area.

someone else recommended i do the full 120k maintenance along with changing all the rubber hoses...

Where are you located? Chances are, there is a shop near you that specializes in Z32s...

(This is why filling out profile information, including location, is so important.)

The guy in that video doesn't speak well, but he speaks truth (where it's important, at least). lol

I hate my voice, mumble sometimes, occasionally stutter (my mind goes faster than my mouth), and don't even have a Z32 to use for such purposes anymore. lol But thank you.

You don't need a 120k kit if your car only has 20k miles. Look into a 60k kit if you want to refresh stuff.

And search before buying anything from Z1... there's risk involved in transactions with them.

I know there's at least one shop in the New York area, but I can't think of it off the top of my head. Let me look into it and I'll get back to you.

my 2 cents..

I had my EFI harness changed without pulling the motor..but my car was taken to AMS..chances are the shop you took it to isn't experienced with working on our cars.. and if you have the $$$ get the 60k kit done one time...

There is a guy over at twinturbo.net with the screen name ZinNYC that posts a lot. I bet he would know a good shop. Their site is down now but I'm sure it will be back up soon.

If it were me, I'd do 60k, rear main seal, valve cover gaskets, front and rear seals in the tranny, as well as change the tranny fluids.

Get the o'riellys special on oil and filter, and run that through for about 30 minutes to an hour (since the engine sat so long) to get any gunk out before draining it and putting a quality oil in it.

while the engine's out, relocate the knock sensor.
