I actually like the Pulsar idea. FWD SR20DET engines are cheaper to buy in that configuration.
How bad is the SR head design? The SR head is wider than the KA head (DOHC) so I would think it was engineered better for flow.
RB's were JDM only. (there's that fancy word again!)
they have different laws in Japan about engine size and taxes and such. The Fairlady Z originally had a 2000cc L20 while the US got the 2.4L
so they've always had slightly smaller displacement than us, but usually they had more turbo options than us.
They got the SR20DET while we got the KA24DE. whoopty doo....
oh ya, and on the SR20DET swap in a Z32... you can change your own oil without removing the engine!

i know they got diff laws but.... it still dont add up.....
and in japan is supra motor still not an I6 3.0 litre and a z32 a V6 3.0 motor... so why did they make the I6 RB a 2.6 litre... its just wierd... so i freaked out lol

I've always wondered about this... The power difference between these motors. Personally, I wouldn't go near an SR20. They're good for modifications, if you're planning on rebuilding the engine, but otherwise, I just think the VG engine is simply better, from what I understand. You're making a comparison between a Z and a Silvia, and a Z is higher on the food chain. Now, if it's an RB series motor, then that's different... Those are always used in creating high horsepower monsters. Those, and the 2JZs as well. They're inline sixes. We see tons of these 1000 or 1500 horsepower Supras and Skylines, and point taken, they're absolutely insane. But, can the VG engine do the same thing if the same amount of love was put into it? That's something I've always wondered. The highest horsepower I've seen a Z32 at is 800 something. Not that I'd ever consider pushing my car above 600, it's just unnecessary. What I'm trying to ask here is this. Is the VG30, a V6, capable of the same amount of power as the 2JZ or RB inline sixes?

EDIT: oh yeah and VR4gasm... ever decide on a car and purchase or what? **** or get off the pot lol

If I can't see a wrench on the ground, reach down next to the engine and pick it up then there's not enough room.
Besides, we're talking turbo engines. Neither of you have a TT Z32. There's twice as many pipes running next to the engine with those.
You dont even need to jack the car up with an SR

dude... changing the oil doesnt change from a TT to an NA... oil filters are in the same spot under the car with a whole cut in the plastic undercariage **** so you dont have to remove anything.. the drain plug also has an opening... its easy.... soooo.... what does ownin a TT have to do with changing the oil on a Z32 being easy as pie?

i said you dont have to... they are cut out by factory to have them opened up so you jack the car up and can easily just reach under grab oil filter and oil plug... yeesh.... the oil filter aint stickin out the side like in the L series motors they stick out straight towards the ground just like the oil plug on your car....
