Strange Clutch Issues - Need Advice...

Hello All,

I have a '92 Z32 N/A - 5-speed Coupe. I drive the car very little. It is totally stock. I put an all new factory Nissan clutch kit and flywheel (from my local dealership) in the car about 3 years ago. It had never had a clutch replacement. It has 90,000 miles on it now. I have driven it about 400 miles in the last 3 years. I got it out to drive it last week and noticed a severe slipping of the clutch under power in all gears. It is drivable. If you don't get on the throttle, you may never notice the slipping - but give it some gas, and it slips like crazy. I had never noticed it doing that in the past. It has no leaks of any kind. I talked to several mechanics and they thought the pressure plate was bad. Given the lack of miles on the clutch assembly, I am inclined to not beleive that is the problem. Have any of you guys ever experienced or heard of a problem like this?

Thanks in advance...

i doubt air in the lines would cause slippage. it would allow the clutch to sit in it's natural position where it wouldn't slip

you may have burned out the clutch plate by hot rodding it over those 400 miles, or riding it, or your kid has been driving it without you knowing it and he burned the clutch. sounds like you need to pull the tranny and look at the clutch.

I would guess that the dealer didn't replace the rear main seal when they did the clutch. You can confirm or deny this by checking your receipt from when the clutch was done. Oil leaking from the leaking seal will cause the clutch to slip.

Thanks for the info

Thanks for the info/suggestions. A friend of mine and myself did the clutch job. I did not replace the rear seal at the time of the clutch r&r. It was not leaking and does not appear so at this time. At least I have not seen anything on the floor of my garage where the car is kept. I have babied that car ever since I bought it. It has never been driven exceptionally hard. I am the only one who drives it. I guess it's pull the transmission for me again...

I am aware of the adjustment needed for the clutch pedal and the switches under the dash if a performance clutch is installed, but since the clutch is hydraulic, is there an adjustment for clutch disk itself? I have not seen one on any other clutch set, but I only work on cars for a hobby...

Thanks again..
