test pipe quicky
alright. i know i had this in a previous post but i didnt feel like finding it and no one reading cause they go oh, thats been resolved. anyways, we decided those tubes in my mid-pipes were the AIV's for warming my cats, well they are there dangling, i was just curious as to if i should plug those up or leave them or if anything could happen you know basics. and info quick will be appreciated as to i dotn want to dirve for to long with it wrong or somethign. thanks

the aiv pumps are located underneath the front fender wells. take out the inner fender covers and you should see them. then you dont really have to worry about them , unless the pipes are actually "hanging" there. i didnt take off the metal pipes, just the aiv pumps, and the tubes going from the aiv pipes to the cats

yes yes i do. i just wanted to make sure i wasnt in harm of sucking sopmething up into my engine, then after i posted that im thought, wait, they are pumps so even if soemthign does my pump will go out, no harm to anything truly important. ill probly remove those pumpse soon though just cuase. thanks on hte info though.

Just so you know, if you have those dangling there when you go for your emissions test, you will fail the visual part if they're bright enough to notice.
Remove the entire AIV system... you'll save weight, which translates into a faster car and better gas mileage, and you don't risk failing a visual inspection.

I was about to suggest the same thing. I know it isnt alot of weight saved. But just like pinching pennies, it adds up. We weighted everything back when I elimnated the AIV and Air by pass tract on my NA Slicktop. All together it was like 15 lbs. Each pump weighed like 6 lbs a piece if I remember correctly. Then there other hoses, brackets, and one solenoid.

If you have disconnected AIVs just dangling there you will fail a visual inspection. If you remove the system, there wouldn't be anything dangling there for them to fail you for.

mhmm... i know what you mean but like. when they stick you on the "dyno" sorta thing and put the hoses on your exhaust is what im saying, wont the readings fail you then following the visual.

so you bought test pipes and put them on, even tho you have to pass emissions? did i catch that right?
if you do get tested, are you planning on putting the cats back on for emissions? yugobernie sells plugs(or did) for those AIV holes in your cats, or you can get your own somewhere else.

When you have to get your emissions tested, put your cats back on. (By the way, crimp or cap the AIV inlets on your cats, since you'll be removing the AIV system anyway).
If you have catalytic converters on the car and no dangling exhaust pieces, you should pass the test (assuming your car is healthy enough to pass in the first place).
And by the way, it's only a treadmill, not a dynomometer (it doesn't measure horsepower and torque).
