Track Day at Portland International Raceway!!
Well the day finally got here, and 25 or so drivers got to attend the Team Continental racing/high performance driving school at PIR. I was lucky enough to have the master race instructor Bill Murray as my instructor for the day! What a cool guy....We were able to be on the track for four 25-30 minute sessions, with the instructors in the car with you, showing you how to make your way through the course as fast and as smooth as possible.
Here's a picture looking down the start of the main straightaway....I was able to hit 125MPH once before I had to brake for the corner.....The Viper was doing 145-160 down that straight with flames shooting out of it's exhaust!.....Jeez!
The morning flag rundown....My instructor Bill is 3rd from the left.
The tech inspection lineup....
All kind of cars showed up...Here's some of the street cars.....
A brand new Viper....only 550 HP!
A new RX8......Fast!
Canadians!!
Finally ready to roll! My turn!
Here's some of the racecars that ran.....A Toyota powered Spec racer.
Don't laugh too hard, this tiny Fiat was pretty quick!
Hrer's the Killer Viper with over 600+ BHP......215mph in 5th gear!
Inside of the Black Viper....
Well used Viper tires/wheels for sale, used only 3 times........Very little tread left!
A pic of my front wheels chocked with brake dust after a really fun day of hard driving......
I pretty much burnt up my metallic pads yesterday, right off of the car....but just left enough to get home! I got to feel and learn how the ABS system works under very hard braking, as well as how the HICAS works when you toss the car around sharply....COOL! My instructor took the car around a couple of times to show me the lines and the REAL speed the Z was capable of and he was literaly flying through the course, FAST. (I had to make a trip to the washroom after that session!)
If you guys ever have the chance to do something like this, do not pass on the opportunity, besides the chance to learn how your car handles at speed and having seasoned racers teach you how to drive a fast course, the extended adrenaline rush is worth the price alone!!

Very Nice!!
Awesome Gallery! thanks for sharing!
I'd love to do that! But first, I need a new suspension, new tires, upgraded brakes, more power, etc., etc., etc.
LOL Dare to dream, that's all I do!
