Tune Up Time
Hello All,
I recently purchased a 1990 AT 300 ZX from a dealer. It has a 112,000 miles on it with no maintenance records. Before I purchased the vehicle I took it to a Z specialist. Checked out fine. Everything is stock. Question number one is What parts do I need to change for a major tune up? Second, which should I do myself and which should I have a professional do?
Third, what overhaul will I need to perform at the 120,000 mile mark? Finally, to improve speed performance what should I modify first, second, and so on?
There seem to be some intelligent people in these forums. I hope somebody can help.

Re: Tune Up Time
Tune ups normally consist of changing spark plugs and wires, checking all your belts and fluid levels and checking your distributor. You can buy the plugs and wires yourself and do it, not that hard. At 120K miles it is recommened you replace your timing belt. That can be very difficult if you never done it before. For performance, intake and exhaust are the first things, check JWT for a list of performance parts.

Re: Tune Up Time
As far as mods. there is a stage chart, actually a few. This is more or less standard for the NA:
1. Intake
2. Exhaust
3. ECU
4. Underdrive pulley
5. headers
6. Ignition
7. flywheel
8. cams
9. Nitrous
like I said, this is just one way to do it, but either way, intake is the first. good luck
