hey i was crusing craigslist today and found a 91 n/a vg30 motor with ?miles
it will need a rebuild i know.
its for 150 i could part it out for more if i find it to be junk.

what you guys think?

he needs it gone by friday should i get it?

 

do you need a motor? sounds pretty good to me but the add looks like a good candidate for one of those that leaves out a really big piece of info. like, maybe, a cat got caught in the crank shaft when the guy was auto-x ing it with no oil pan to save weight.

 

he had plans to rebuild it and put it in his z but his wife told him no we need to lay cement on the side of the house so the engine has to go i offered him 100. i could get my money back just by selling the plenum and cas alone on ebay so if it turns out to be junk at least it was not like buying it for 500 or something

and no i dont need a motor now but it never hurts to keep another on around just in case since you never know. or i could just rebuild it for fun and sell it as a good rebuilt motor

 

buy it as a core. for $150 its not bad.

 

yeah thats what i fighured ohh and i just talked to him and said i only have 100 and money is short and he said if its still there on friday its mine for 100

mabe ill build it up and make it unique

 

sweet, yeah put it on a stand and do a leak down, then if thats good, pull the pan and inspect the bottom end.

 

yeah true that if you can get it for #100 and it still has components, you can't go wrong. i might be likely to buy it from you if you have it sitting still over christmas break

 

you know i just had a thought if i buy it for 100 i could strip all the good parts from it and make bank and take the rest of it that is unsellable and get some money for it at the scrap yard.

how much you guys think i could make off the parts?

btw this motor has everything on it except the a/c compressor, ps pump, and alternator.

i got a 97k Z32 motor for free.... sooo i wouldnt pay for one that needed a rebuild haha

 

well i could rebuild it and make it a tt motor
so i could have a tt slicktop

 

i would guess that off of the bolted on components, you could make maybe $400-500. just my uneducated guess. and about $100 of it would be from me.

 

if i decide to part it out what would you need?

 

theres differences between blocks and crap from the TT motors and non turbo ones. id say find a TT motor that needs rebuilt if thats your plan

 

yeah thats why i was thinking of parting this one out to make some dough and buy a tt block and build a monster and when im done drop it in my slicktop

 

some idle control components off the back of the plenum, harmonic balancer (mine is chipped), and something else i can't remember right now. i haven't seen the car but once in the last month

 

i have been researching the differences between a n/a engine and a tt.

there are only a couple differences, which can be changed to make a tt motor i will have to pull apart the motor anyways i could do the slight mods and make a tt motor since it will be apart anyways. it will be a fun project i think.
and no this wont be my first time rebuilding an engine so i will know what im doing for the most part i mostly work on motorcycle engines so a v6 will be a nice change.

ok im going to get it tomorrow night since he is giving me the engine stand, engine, and a box full of extra parts that he salvaged off his buddy wrecked 300

hey kas i had the guy send me some up close photos of the engine it looks from the picture that the harmonic balencer and idle air control components are all there so if there use able you got first dibs anything else?

 

no i can't think of anything. thanks. i want that balancer, and the smaller idle control valve that is closest to the balance tube. considering the balancer isn't chipped or damaged in anyway, and that the guy tells you the car was idling fine before. which i doubt. but if that thing looks good, i'll take it for the right price. i am a college student lol
