Vtc Help!!!

Ok... I took my Z32 into the Nissan Dealer here in Harrisburg for the timing belt, water pump, ect... Got the Master tech working on it personally. My question is... What's the deal with the VTC? I was getting some Valve tapping and I'm being told I will probably need to replace the VTC Sprokets. Any Info??? I was also told (by the service guy, NOT the tech), that on the Z32 the VTC is NOT rebuildable. Why do the Timing kits come with VTC springs if you can't rebuild them??? HELP Please.

Just have them replace the vtc springs with the t-belt kit and don't pay them to do anything with the pullies or the vtc solenoids / mechanism. Inherently, the vtc mechanism in the pullies will start to tick. Most of the time, the new springs will minimize this. The pullies should last the life of the motor.

How many miles, btw?

did your engine tick? theres a lifter tick and a VTC tick. the VTC tick can be fixed by replacing the springs. there was a Technical Service Bulletin (NTB92-016) about VTC problems. ask the tech about that. it basically says that nissan advises just replacing the springs.

there may be other problems with the sprocket, causing it to need replacement. they are expensive too. so do whatever you can to try and figure out if the sprockets are actually bad.

91,126 miles (NA) when I dropped it off yesterday at the dealer. They're waiting on parts, should have it back tomorrow or Thursday.

I'm going to call them in a minute and tell them I would like the springs replaced. I'll reference that TSB and see if that rings any bells. Thanks guys!

The valves aren't the ones that are actually "soft". The valves where made to hard, and as a result they slap the head(deforming them). Maybe you already knew that:P

Hey guys... I got the Z back today. $1200 for Timing belt, water pump, all 3 drive belts, thermostat, VTC springs, and a few other things... I don't have the paper in front of me.

I'm happy... No More Tick, quiet engine, no noises, idle is perfect at 800 RPM's. They even detailed it.
