Re: 6 1/2" speakers
I went to www.courtesyparts.com to order speaker brackets. Cost me $125 for 2 front and 2 rear delivered 2 day service, Or you could look for a junked Z with a non-Bose system and pull the brackets out of it. The Bose speakers have a big box around them with an amp in it so the hole they leave isn't suitable without a bracket.

Re: 6 1/2" speakers
I just replaced by factory bose speakers with Pioneer 6 1/2" 3-ways. I used the same plastic housing that held the original speakers, but I used a roto-tool and made the holes big enough to drop in the new speakers. I used the same speaker in all four locations and it worked great and look OEM.

Re: 6 1/2" speakers
I had a Bose system in my 93 300 ZX. Last weekend, I had the head unit swapped and adapter plates made by Tweeter Audio/Video for the door panels so that I can use 6 1/2" coaxials in the front. Out came the Bose amp and speakers which is fine with me since the aftermarket Alpine head unit has enough power. Tweeter Audio/Video also made plates for the rear speakers and I am now using 4" speakers in the rear.

Re: 6 1/2" speakers
I was able to put a set of 6.5" Alpine components in the front stock door locations by tracing the outline of the huge Bose speaker "box" that came with the car and then installing the 6.5" mid/woofer into that. I then screwed the whole "assembly" into the place the Bose speaker was originally in. It works out fine, but you have to watch the depth of the magnet on your speaker coz it will get hit by the window when you bring it down. I palced the tweeter on the sailpanel at the base of the A pillar- they sound so much better than the piece of crap that was in there before! As for the rears, I placed a set of Alpine coaxials in the two plastic panels that cover the ABS and the headlight leveling device that came with the car. I cut holes out with a drill and jigsaw- they look awesome and sound tons better!
