90 300zx N/A 34,000 new to me...
Hi.
I found this site while looking for information on my "new/used" '90 300zx N/A with 34,000 miles on it.
I have known the original owner of the car since it was purchased new back in 1990 he's an older gentleman in his mid 70's that had two cars until I bought the 300zx from him last week at least he still has his convertible Trans Am.
I'll get to the point with my questions I hope that u's can help me out....
The car was used to drive up and down the beach in Fort Lauderdale and literally to the grocery no exaggeration, I was told that the timing belt should be replaced because it may becoming dry rotted and while that's being done that a new water pump should be put on as these things are done at the same time to my understanding?
What do u's think I know the car's coming up on 15 years old but it has low mileage and was driven some where around 40 some odd miles a week since new do you think that the timing belt/water pump should be replaced ASAP or would you wait a few months before doing this?
*Is it possible to check the timing belt to see if it's starting to dry rot other than by physical inspection is there any other way to tell if the timing belt needs replaced?
I am also going to be replacing the mufflers as the Monza dual's that are on there now are rusted out because of the salt air and humidity in Sunny South Florida.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to replace the mufflers with I am looking for a "rumbling" sound like in a 305 V8 yea I know it's a 6 cylinder but would like to have a deep rumbling sound when idling and driving down the road.
Any suggestions as to what I should start out with would be greatly appreciated.

Hog...as for exhausts...depends what you can and want to spend. I personally like B&B or Sebring cat-back systems. They are a low tone but can be quite loud on an N/A. Many people like the HKS Hyper...many don't.
Check out Rizz's General Z32 info sticky under the General thread. Lots of suppliers there with different options and prices for you.
As for timing belt...better safe than sorry. Belts can dry out over time and you can't always tell by looking at them while they are on. Besides, you are fortunate to have purchased from the original owner and he has babied it. It's not a bad idea to take his word for it. Better safe then sorry. If you decide to go this route, you may want to do the whole 60K service at the same time.
Sounds like a great find. Congrats!
