Bearing/Plastigage Question

Bearing/Plastigage Question
So my son threw a rod through the oil pan a couple weeks ago. I picked up a 92 engine less the injectors and fuel rail for $200. The plan is to rebuilt the block and heads from this engine and use anything I might need off the original engine. I plan to have the block dipped and honed as well as having the crank micro polished and balance checked. Heads will be rebuilt as well. I've been putting a list together and had a question on bearing selection.
It appears that the thickness of the bearings are determined by the "Grade Numbers" stamped on the number 1 counter weight and the "Punched Numbers" on the cylinder block. From what I've read it appears you just replace based on these numbers to be back to original stock clearances.
Does anyone use plastigage to measure clearance also? and does this factor into the bearing choice?
This is my first "Z32" engine so I'll probably be on here asking questions.
Thanks,
Glenn
