Believe engine Blown.

Hey guys. I have only been part of the 300 crew for less then a month. I REALLY love my car. It drives so smooth. So fast. and gets so many compliments i dont ever want to get rid of it.

Now. I was in PA. coming home. I was speeding. BUT NOT RACING. i was around 100mph and over at some speeds.(the roads are so long and straight and my radar detector is good well now it is since my last ticket lol)

The engine didnt blow while i was at the exessive speeds. I was getting off a ramp when i could feel the car loose POWER SEVERELY. It was like 60-0 in about 8 seconds lol. It wasnt a violent slow down it just wouldnty speed up with Gas.

OK, now, pulled it over. opend the hood. Little smoke over by the brake booster line but not too bad. Now when i restrated the engine it sounds like something is banging inside the cyclinders or something. I was thinking it was an rod arm or something. My friends who know alot about cars. (see im the one in the group with the nice car who can drive but cant fix what i brake!)

So with the car on the sound is crazy METEL inside banging around. They told me it could be a swing arm or a rod arm, but it is most likely a VALVE. Can anyone desctribe a valve blowing? And how bad to fix is this on a Z. This is like a FORCED TT SWAP now im looking at. unless it could be fixed for under 800$ i dont feel its worth even fixing just swapping. Any ideas guys? Thanks.

NO BLACK SMOKE. AND THE CAR CAN STILL DRIVE, just slow. Thanks. AND ITS A 90 2+2 N/A.

there's really no way to tell you what is wrong, unless you were to take it apart and check.

Did your oil pressure spike up? If so, I would say this incident is pointing towards a spun bearing. Sorry man, sounds like a Twin Turbo swap isn't a bad idea at the moment for you.

Then again, why not write us your VIN Number... Just for fun. If your ending digit is below 777,599, then your 300ZX is most deffinately subjected to the '90s curse... In other words, your heads are weaker than newer models. I can personally vouch for this... My VIN number was JN1RZ24A3LX000102... I got it the worst

Hope if all turns out well though, good luck.

If you feel up to the work brother... Go for it, but know this: VG engines are no walk in the park. It's the unfortunate truth.

But if you need a clip, just get in touch with me.

God I wish you weren't so damn far away... I'd jump on that in a second. Low Mileage Z's are a rarity.

your $800 will be gone in the diagnosis and just starting to tear the engine apart if you plan on having somebody else do it...

if you and your friends can take on the job, NA internals aren't too pricey...especially since you will most likely be replacing with OEM parts and not need the entire set of whatever it is you break...

but, when i had engine problems, i didnt consider it a forced tt swap...i considered it an excuse to take out my student loan and do my tt swap...i think you should consider it, because you will end up throwing money into the car, and it will add up over time, and one day down the road you're gonna say "damn with all the money i've put into it, i coulda had a TT by now!"...

so keep this in mind....wise man once said, "best first mod is forced induction"...

good luck brother
