Cat-Back Exhaust
I have a 1990 N/A and i would like to get a cat-back exhaust for it but everything i have found so far is pretty pricey. Could anyone recommend a decent exhaust at a decent price. Also if anyone has ran their N/A at an 1/8th mile strip could you give me an idea of what a good time would be.

REMINDER: YOU OWN A Z!
Sorry, but you've got to remember that you own what was originally a 40 to 50K car. Exhaust systems won't come cheap. Considering that most will be made out of stainless steel (hopefully) so that it'll last, made with mandrel bends (for less restriction and more hp) and that you'll also have to pay for shipping, you're not looking at a cheap investment. Do some searching around in this forum, I've listed many, many online retailers in other posts that you can order from.
As far as the time slips, sorry can't help with that.
Good luck on your search.

I have a cat-back for the n/a it cost $480 from megan racing go to e-bay and look up 300zx exhaust they should have it on there. Its a good exhaust system and take about 2 hrs to install. its full stainless.

I think the cheapest route for you is going to be to go custom. That will help you get the most out of your money. If you provide two mufflers of your choice and find an exhaust shop that's willing to do it for a reasonable price, then that probably your best bet. Also, shipping is out the door!!

if you want a cheap exhaust that gives you performance then i would go with OBX. the sound level is very loud but it cost only 320 dollars from the headers back. (no cats)
p.s. i must admit the obx sound is very intimidating without cats so i suggest keeping the cats.

Nothing aftermarket is going to approach stock. In sound or quality! Everything aftermarket should be far superior in quality and much, much louder. Even the quietest system will be a huge difference in sound levels compared to stock. If you want something quiet go back to stock. Anything that is going to produce power will also produce sound. That's just the way it is for the most part.

Check out this custom system w/ Magnaflow 14816's
Certified Muffler does a nice cat-back system that looks and sounds great. Increased performance, low, throaty sound, mostly more noticeable sound at cruising speed, but far from offensive and not at all coffee can sounding. However, Certified's custom system costs as much as some cat back systems from Stillen or elsewhere.
I think the key to their system the Magnaflow mufflers and tips which come together from Magnaflow. I believe the part number is 14816. You can get them off ebay for about $140 each and have a muffler shop put them on your car.
To me it is the best looking exhaust I've seen on a Z32.
I tried to get the pics to upload, but the upload function is hanging on my computer. If you want to post your email or send me a private message I'll email them to you.
Good luck!

When you buy mufflers and then you have a shop put them on your car, you run into the problem of the bends not being smooth and disrupted exhaust flow.
The reason ppl go with aftermarket exhaust systems to begin with is for the smooth mandrel bends which increases performance and the longevity of the materiels, i.e. stainless steel. With a muffler shop, you more than likely will not get either of those.

just bought two megan racing mufflers online, when i get them I hope to find a muffler shop to make me some pipe, i have a question... generally do people keep on that resonator or take it off? If i took it off would the muffler shop just make the pipe bolt right up to the cats? thanks
