not necessarily. The best way to tell is to push the throttle down. If it slips (ie. RPMs go up disproportionatly to speed) then that means your clutch needs to be adjusted at the very least. Smells can be caused by a few things though. If you ran through a puddle and water got in there somehow. If you rode the clutch a little too hard. There are a few things. Only if it slips do you need to go to the mechanic to have it checked.
