Coolant explosion
Hey guys I've recently purchased a 1990 TT. Everything seems to work fine until today. I pulled the car up onto a lift to get a look at the exhaust system and the car starting leaking coolant all over like the motor overheated. It was a hot day but the heat gauge read that it wasn't overheating. My question is what could have caused this? I have a 16psi rad cap, should I get a higher psi cap or is it something else?

Re: Coolant explosion
im kinda confused one what your talking about, do you have any idea where it was leaking from? im confused on why it didnt leak on the ground, but when you just lifted it up in the air it did? do you mean you took the undercover off, there was coolant on it? there are many places this could be leaking, clean everything up, and check for leaks next time, help me out and lemme know what you meant and i can help you.

Re: Coolant explosion
Okay sorry about the confusion. I'm not sure where it was leaking from. My guess is that it was leaking out of the overflow tank. When I opened the hood I couldn't see anything leaking out of the rad cap or the visible hoses. It did leak onto the ground just to clear that up. It started to leak out when It was on the lift; that could be just a concidence. I guess what I'm asking, Is the rad cap the cause of it? Could it be that the pressure build up was so much that the overflow tank filled up and let out all my coolant. If this is the case what kind of rad cap do you suggest to use.

Re: Coolant explosion
put a stock cap back on to be sure, but i doubt it, i use the nismo radiator cap. no worries for me, is it comming out of the fender well? or why would you think it was the overflow tank? i would check your water pump/radiator and hoses, see how they look

Ya it was coming out of the fender well, that's why I assumed it was the overflow. But I will check the hoses to see if they are worn; my guess its that they are. I will post again after I check everything to let you know what I find out.
