Crank Seal Leaking?
I tried searching but couldn't find anything.
I have a small oil leak coming from the front of my engine. It really only seems to leak when it's cold. I pretty sure it's a crank shaft seal and my question is does anyone know about what it's going to cost to fix it. Could it be something else? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

leaky seal
If it's the front main seal, it's not that difficult to change. If you take it to a shop, I don't think they'll charge you very much, but you could change it yourself almost as easily. It's the rear main seal that can really suck. That one can get a bit expensive to have replaced at a shop.

Front main seal EASY??!!! LOL
The front main seal on the 300zx engine is in the oil pump. Its mounted on the crankshaft, due to the lack of a distributor of the ignition. To change it you must remove the harmonic balancer, timing belt, timing belt pulley, oil pan, and oil pump. Oh and to get the pan off you need to support the engine w/a hoist and take out the front suspension crossmember. While your at it just rebuild the engine!! lol

beechkingd is right about removing everything but the oil pump and oil pan. The crank seal sits in the oil pump around the crankshaft. Once you pull the timing pulley at the crank, you will see the seal. It is not a hard job to do. Hardest part will be aligning the engine to TDC and possibly the timing pulley maybe seized onto the crankshaft. If this happens, you will need to cut it off. Good luck!
