haha why has nobody ever told me this?! i typically just spend about 3 miserable hours with the engine merely leaning back on its own weight trying to get it stabbed.

I had hoped you'd be tech-savvy enough to realize that, without the transmissions mounted to add weight to the back, the engine rocks forward under its own weight.

actually i thought it leaned back. i had seen recommendations to block the rear of the engine or put a block between the intake and the firewall to keep it from rocking back. i was always afraid that if it rocked back too far then it could break the engine mounts. haha all this time i was just jacking it farther forward from the back of the engine with my scissor jack. i can't wait to do another tranny drop with my new info!

i'm thinking about it now and realizing.... i put the scissor jack under the oil pan (with a block to distribute of course) at the height that it was naturally sitting at. then i left it there, pulled the transmission back, and then was able to drop the rear of the engine more. i think it does lean back when you take the transmission off.

If that were the case, it'd be easy to stab the transmission.

The mounted transmission pulls the engine back... removing that tension allows the engine to move forward a bit. If you don't believe me, measure the distance between the plenum and the firewall with the trans out, then re-measure it when you get the trans back in. With the trans in, the distance between the firewall and plenum will be smaller, because the trans pulled the engine back.

What I wound up doing was pulling them both out together.

It wouldnt budge with all of the suggestions and i didnt see why I would have to drop te cross member like some of the write ups said, so i jsut cranked the hoist and pulled them out together.

Whilst lowering the engine and cradling the trans if slipped out in my arms.

No damage to the shaft or anything, Im not sure why it was stuck but its done now.

I get the new motor friday so Im hoping to have the car road worthy by next week.

Got a lot of bay cleaning to do today.

..... As an added note, when the tranny is out, it's easy to tip the motor forward, gain clearance, and replace the heater hoses going to the firewall.
