Re: exaust system
The only exhaust system that I have heard people complaining about actual power loss is the stillen system. I don't have any first hand knowledge about the stillen system, Ive just heard it reported that some have experienced power loses with it.
B&B Is what I see as a resounding favorite on the high stage 300Zs. They are quite pricy, I think they run 1000+ dollars. They sound great, and Im pretty sure they give the most bang for the buck on the dyno.
As for the HKS exhaust. I would imagine HKS would follow their reputation as a leading manufacturer of quality performance parts. I don't see why their exhaust system would be any different. HKS is such a respected name, I don't see how you could go wrong with any of their products.
B&B is definately what I read to be the best performance exhaust system however. Seriously though, they may put out 2, maybe 3 more ponies than say the HKS system. Unless your just a power junky I don't see why you would spend the extra money just for 2 or 3 horses. As you know, people will definately shell out that kind of money for that ever looming edge over their competition. You get what you pay for, and that goes for performance parts as well. I would be comfortable with a HKS, Greddy, or B&B system. Im sure there are others too.

Re: exaust system
In remarks to your final question, I dont think I touched on it, No exhaust really helps you in your low end power to my knowledge. Exhaust is most effective in the high end when excess backpressure bogs your engine. Exhaust helps turbos spool faster, and I believe it helps you more at your top end. If you want Low end power, you should invest in an underdrive pulley, and a High flow POP charger. They will help give you that low end power.
Hope that was accurate =/

Re: exaust system
The B&B exhaust is the best exhaust by far. I have it and love it. There are things you need to know about it before buying one. First off, there is a lot of resonance inside the car between 2200 and 2600 rpm. That and the price are the only negatives of the exhaust.
It has an X-pipe that is proven to flow better than H-pipes. It creates a scavenging effect that really pushes air through. The Stillen exhaust is also an X-pipe and will have similar hp gains, but is quieter (still has resonance inside the cabin). These are the two best exhausts on the market for the Z bar none. HKS sells a lot of exhausts, but many are not stainless steel like the other two. In my opinion, if you're paying $600+ for an exhuast, it better be stainless steel. But you have to decide what you want looks wise and sound wise. Once you do that, let me know and I can recommend an exhaust for you.
