Gateway valves vs. butterfly
Hey guys, just a thought I ve been having lately. I m a freshman engineering student at SPSU her in Marietta, Ga. I was curious if any of you guys have ever heard of/ dealt with gateway valves. THe guys at the college are claiming that the gateways valves are more efficient as to how much air flow them can allow vs the traditional butterfly valves.
I ve been wondering and considering playing with the idea on my NA. See if it makes any difference at all.

Up front disclaimer, what I'm about to say is all second hand knowledge. OK.
Gate valves do flow better wide open, but at partial throttle they create turbulent and unstable flow. Too turbulent, way past the helpful amount.
They do make carburators that use gate valves, but all of them I have seen are for race use only. i.e. at or near full throttle majority of time.
So if your interested in bulding a drag car, give it a shot.
FYI, the reason they flow better is the gate exits the throttle body completely when fully open, leaving zero obstruction.

OH OK..that explains why they say it is more efficient. The guys who i talked to about it are the ones building the Formula SAE race car here on campus. They are running the car a WOT most of the time. So your probably right...
I was just curios..thanks man.
