HELP!! shakey shifter
i have a 90 z n/a and whenever i have it in 3rd gear the shifter moves around. it doesn't really shake, and it doesn't grind going in or out of gear, but when im cruising in 3rd if i hit the gas the shifter will move forward a little, then if i let off the gas it moves back, but it doesn't fall out of gear. if anyone know what this might be let me know.

Re: HELP!! shakey shifter
Maybe your car couldn't wait to get on 4th gear!! Remmy what is 300z is about and have same result in 2nd to 4th gears when being king of road!! Just purchased my babe and had same feeling but had to IGNORE it since long trip back home or I'll have ulcer!! And it was smooth trip back from Ft Lauderdale to Ausin, TX. But if you getting neck strain then I would consider troubleshooting the transmission.

Re: HELP!! shakey shifter
Sounds normal to me... almost every rwd manual I've ever driven has done this a little bit, definately every datsun or nissan and I find it reassuring to feel some pressure on the stick as I accelerate into the next corner in my 280 - it's like you can feel the power through the stick before it works it's way through the drivetrain, suspension, tyres etc and then back up into the seat of your pants. Just one more step towards total Z immersion )
I don't think you get similar feel from front wheel drive cars as the gearbox linkages are often less direct. I think it's a pretty normal thing to feel a slight movement or pressure from the stick in a RWD with throttle changes.
Get used to the feel of it and I'm sure you'll be banging through clutchless changes with the best of them.

What Rust?
