I Have A Problem!!!

Ok, ok, yes, the first step is admitting it. LoL

Ok here's the skinny, My 1990 M/T N/A z32 fairlady dies after coming down from high rpm's.

If i ride like a good boy it's fine, but if i ride like a fat kid to the ice cream store, it hates me for some reason.

If i take off and shift at 3.5 rpm or more in each gear and push the clutch in or pull into neutral from 3rd, 4th, or 5th gear it will drop rpm to 2-3 hundred and die on me. I can rev up to save it but it's hard to brake for a light and rev up at the same time.

Welcome! It would save a lot of time and guessing if you go ahead and check the ECU for trouble codes. Click HERE for the procedure.

Hahaha, heel/toe. Also check all your vacuum lines. Sounds like you might have a leak. A big leak.

What is the condition of your MAFS? And yes, run your codes.

Do you happen to have a pop charger or other cone-style intake on this car?

In most instances where this happens, it's a combination of a cone style intake and the IACV being set too low.

Search though... I instructed someone on how to adjust their idle and resolve the cone-style intakes not 2 months ago.

haha heel toe...soo easy....jsut learn to rev match while your at it...screw a clutch. and yeah...run codes, zlover is smart so reply if you have a intake like he said. he can throw up a write up on it or something. and if it was a vacumme leak wouldnt it hardly idle then to jsut after start up? not after letting off the gas? sounds almost like turbo cars when your boosting and just let off and it chokes it from teh mixture being to rich...but its not turbo, i just felt liek throwin that up there.

yea, I was gonna ask if you had a popcharger and not a splash shield. There's a duct tape trick if that's your problem, but I recommend just getting a new splash shield. Stalling after high revving with a popcharger is common. If not, an air leak or something electronic (run your codes like stated before).

This only happens with turbocharged cars that have blow off valves (not recirculation valves, which come on the Z32), and can be resolved via Apex-i AFC II (it has a setting where you can lean out the mixture when the RPMs drop, thus eliminating the rich condition from venting metered air).

By the way, all you people saying "heel-toe"... that's a bandaid fix. A healthy car should be able to resist stalling when coming down from speed. Sh*t, if your car wouldn't idle, would you just keep your foot on the accelerator or would you get it fixed? My philosophy... resolve the problem or buy a car that is more reliable. Bypassing the problem is for poor people... poor people should not be driving a 300ZX - they aren't exactly cheap to maintain.

I didn't think so, but with the way some others responded to it I got the impression that some people would encourage that. Not to mention, if the thread starter thought you were serious, he may simply think that's the solution (and considering the way the Z32 community seems to be going, what with people wanting to swap in 4 cylinders, I'd rather take the initiative to protect the sanctity of the Z than hope that the owner knows better... my faith in the everall community has diminished over the years).

I hope you didn't take offense to it though.

Two new symptoms

It now smells bad of gas when i stomp it. and if a cruise in any gear and only press the peddle a little it jumps and stalls like its choking for air or fuel.

My boss sais that that's a common symptom of a bad fuel pressure regulator and im inclined to agree with him seeing as my old z32 had the same problem and a tech pinned it down to that.

You and your boss may be right. It may be fuel related. the fpr is a possibility. I'd check that by hooking up a fuel pressure gauge into your fuel system before the fuel filter, of course.
