j30 motor in na 300zx questions
i have done many searches on info for this swap and i have found only minimal info. well anyways i have a 93 300zx na and am in process of doing the swap only problem is the j30 motor is a 96 and in 96 they stopped the vtc (valve timing control) my j30 engine does not have solenoids for the vtc on it so what now needs to be swapped the camshafts and all or just the solenoids and cam gears any information would be appreatiated. could i just put the motor in and leave the vtc unplugged? will it run properly? im just questioning the whole thing

If you drop a 96 motor in unchanged, you need the 96 electronics (the ECU is different as well, being OBDII). I'd swap the heads entirely (I'm sure the cams are different and you're better off not tearing that deep into the heads).
People on TwinTurbo.NET probably have more insight than I do on such an issue... when I've replaced blown Z32 motors, I've replaced them with proper Z32 engines and always OBDI (all of which have the proper VTC equipment).

the electronics and wires are no problem cause the harness is still in the car i would just be using the bare block from the j30 my timing belt jumped and my valves are bent on the old motor i already have the engine and would like the vtc to work if not i just wanna make sure it will run decent at least

If I recall correctly, you cannot swap the VTC solenoids onto the 96 cams... you need the cams out of your old heads as well as all the VTC parts. You should've honestly looked for a 90-95 Z32 engine... they're not hard to find.
