knock sensor question
hey guys, I got a 91 n/A 300zx with a knock sensor code coming up. I found some info about re-routing the sensor to the upper plenum and had my mechanic do just that. Unfortunately it didnt take care of the problem, but not sure why. I also just replaced the plugs on the car and the car still revs pretty course feeling (and a bit course sounding). Does anyone have any other ideas what I can do besides installing the knock sensor in the manuf recommended spot (to the tune of $2K). I so want this Z to run as smooth as it did a few months ago before the sensor went bad. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!!

Replace the sensor.. they aren't expensive... Why would it be $2k? You can relocate it and replace it
Alot of NA guys just bypass the knock sensor as it usually isn't an issue in an NA.. You can install a resistor to keep the CEL from coming on and the code from coming up. There's a write up some where on tt.net or 300zxclub one.

relocation comment
thats the thing, I did relocate a new knock sensor to the upper plenum, per my initial post, however it didnt fix the problem. thats why I'm asking the question. Any other input from someone who fixes these cars would be much appreciated!!!! thanks guys.

I'm confused why it would cost 2k?
If you replaced the sensor, and you still have the code, you might check to see if you actually have a faint knock, though I've never heard of an NA (or any car really) with a faint knock, but that's all I can think of.
The factory service manual will give you step by step things to check when you're throwing this code. I suggest doing that.
