Lock Cylinder Broken

Lock Cylinder Broken
I need help again. The lever on the back of the lock cylinder on my '90 Z broke off. It is made of clear plastic, and looks like it has a small magnet imbeddded in it.
I can get another one from Nissan, but I'm damned if I know how I will replace it. It's nearly impossible to get to in the door.
Does anyone know an easy way to do this? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Johnn B.

RE: Lock Cylinder Broken
Rizz,
Thanks for your reply. That's what I need to know: How the get the blasted thing out of the door so I can repair it.
I can probably do it, but it will be a son-of-a-bitch getting it out and putting it back in. What really pisses me off is they put plastic parts in a lock on a $30,000 car. Jeeeezzzz!!!
Mein Gott... It's enough to make me want to go out and buy an American car again.....
Thanks,
Johann B.

No offense but, as a audiophile, I've done a few installs on all types of cars, and I'll tell you, Japanese, American, German, Korean, Soviet WHATEVER, they're all the same inside the door. Plastic pieces join together all the metal rods. You might have to remove or temporarily 'outplace' some of the wiring and whatever else might be in your way. They had to put it together in the first place right? So there has to be a way to fix and replace parts. It probably won't be easy, but I'm fairly sure that it's possible. Unfortunately, you'll probably have to really get down and just take apart the entire door to get a good look at what you're working with and if you'll have any room to work. I'm guessing not much. I should know, I have a driver's side window that I still have to align for a proper seal. I get an extra shower when I go to an automatic car wash or if it rains really hard. So I completely understand.

I have taken the entire external door handle assembly out to replace the black backing on them. The first side I did took me 6 hours because I was experimenting. The other side took about an hour. Its actually very easy. Take off the interior door panel, there is a hole that has a black plug in it that allows you to get to the bolts that hold the handle to the door so find that. Actually the bolt furthest away from the mirror has this hole the other side you need to use an open ended wrench (10mm I think). Take the plastic pieces off that connect the rods and then maneuver the handle out carefully not to scratch your paint. You should be able to replace what you need after that. I can be a lot more in depth if you need, just let me know. Hope this helps.

Thanks Rizz and Freeflow. I was afraid of that. I saw the access holes... but was hoping someone might know of an easier way to do it. Now I need to get the part... if Nissan will sell it to me without the lock cylinder assembly ($110.00)
I can't see me laying out $110 bucks when all I need is a $2.00 piece of plastic.
I had a friend who used to say: "If it's got **** or wheels, It's gonna cause you trouble"
He was right...
Thanks for your help.
