need help!!! coils burning out???

ok i have no clue wat the hell happened, i put my oil dipstick funnel in, then my car uns really good that night, like 4 days ago, start it up the next morning its is studdering, ok check all the plugs, they are fine now i see some smoke from th coil 6. got the car home, pulled coil. it had a crack on the plastic part connecting the pack to the rubber piece on the bottom. ok must have been the crack shorting it on on something. get my new coil today... boom same thing, that was a waste of money. i checked continuity on the plug and it is fine, so it must be something with the wiring?? wat signals are supposed to be sent through the wires to the coil if anyone knows?? thank you, chad

Honeslty you probably cracked the pack on install, it happens once in a while due to the tight harness connections to the loom that makes for a tight angle. I've seen a few guys do the same. Cut the loom and tape about 2 inches higher to free up some room to fit the coilpack again. Also, do the run down on everything. ECU diagnose, blah ....blah...blah. And check the coil packs with a voltmeter as well. There is a great tech on how to do on TT.net in their TECH, in case you need it.

yeah im interested in the coils, how much do u want for them? is there a way to test the power transistor unit, i have been looking and i cant find out how to test if it has gone bad? should i just replace it since it is giving me the code on the ecu? wasnt that piece recalled??? i can just go to a dealer and see if the recall was done right?

I have 6 extra's and I would like to keep 3. I'll sell them for $10 each.

I believe the recall on the PTU was only for 1990's.

If your PTU goes bad they have to replace it, even if the recall has been done. Even the replacement units have been known to go bad.

Make sure your spark plug is all the way seated. I've seen coils break during install if the spark plug is not all the way down and then you try to force/screw the coil down.
