new to 300zx
Im considering buying a 1995 300zx 2+2 automatic, my brother owns a 1993 TwinTurbo Z so im sorta of familiar to the car. I test drove the car for over an hour, the temperature stayed level, and it shifts smoothly. The brakes squeaked under light braking, but the pedal dosent pulsate, and the stearing wheel only started shaking during very heavy braking from high speeds. i got it up to 80 mph and noticed the steering get mushy, and loose road feel, after i hit 70. it dosent feel as fast as the 5 speed naturally aspirated v6 but it may just need a tune up sence its been sitting for 2 months without beung run. if anyone could give me some information on the problems i found and weather or not i got a good deal. let me know. Thankes.

Depends.
Style: I like the 2+2, but many like the 2+0.
Brakes: sound like you need to replace some rotors and rebuild the brakes.
Fast? it's an auto attached to a NA 6 cyl engine. If you want FFAAASSSTT then you may want to "do over".
Deal? since you didn't say how much or anything other than the brakes shake, it's pretty hard to tell.

miles - 101,344
price- 9000$
i know that its probley slower then the 5 speed cause its an auto, but it seems realllly sluggish when your at a full stop and the you hit the gas, granted after about 3 or 4 sec its finally wakes up and goes but that dosent seem normal. are the 2+2's heavier then the regular coupe?

guys, quit under-pricing the 300ZX!!! If we drive up the cost, then we'll A) increase the resale value, and B) weed out the people who we realistically don't want buying these cars anyway. Yes, it may go against supply and demand based on the buyers control over the market, but the seller does have some power too!!!

sadly the MSRP ( accoridng to the bank) is 10k + for a 95 Z with 100k so i cant really argue down the price, the only thing wrong with it is a patch of clear coat missing on the rear leaving the paint exposed, but i can fix that eaisly. the interior is in excellent condition.

then don't drive down the cost on that one...look elsewhere and get a nicer one for cheaper. The MSRP? Isn't that for new cars being that it stands for manufacturer suggested retail price? Check out KBB and be suprised. Not that KBB reflects the worth of our cars, but it's always good to use to bargain a price. An zlover, I know what you're saying, but if the rest of the Zs out there are selling for cheaper, I'm not going to jack this guy and try to get him to buy a more expensive Z that's in worse condition.

9k is a good price for a 95 2+2. heck, a 94 2+2 auto sold here for 14k. it had around 70k miles but no 60k done and it was drifted into curbs cause the old owner was a ricer drifter. and so is the new owner cause of the stickers he put on the car.
BTW, can anyone say turbo swap? yes it would be worth it to ME to spend 9k on the car and do a swap. 2+2 TT's arnt quite dime a dozen here in the states.

on an other note, ive seen cars with low miles that are thrashed to sh*t, and higher miles cars of the same model well taken care of. if the car was well taken cared of, thats a plus too.
101,000 miles divided by 10 years equals 10k a year. to me thats good miles.

I paid less than 6 for my slicktop @ 128k miles.... It pulls harder and I've beat every other NA z (including stage 1+ and 2's..) (also beat a 88 shiro, but his tires were poo) i've raced against..... slicktop are just as rare if not more rare than a 2 + 2...
KBB rates it at 8k's with all accessories (leather and what not) in EXCELENT condition.
If there are a few problems (brakes and what not) then I'd tack another 500 off. If they 60k timing was never done (FIND OUT), i'd tack another 600 off. I'd add 2g's for the 2 + 2 rareity factor..
8k - 500 + 2000 = 9500. however, your getting close to the cost of a TT there. Basing the price against that of a TT, i'd say 7k is fair for a 2+2...

Emo, Napoleon (Black Cloud Nappy) don't ask?? lives just southeast of me. Hey Brandon.
Here's a 92 2+2 just came up for sale, I know the guy and the ad is correct the car is perfect. Get rid of the stickers and wing and you've got a damn fine car. The wing and stickers were on it when he got the car. Right now he's working on a couple of 32 verts.

On the 95 2+2 high end wholesale is $7700 mid $6000 low end $4100, add $1500 average for retail. So that would put it at $9200 top $7500 average and $5600 low end

No, slicktops are rare I think no matter where you go since not too many of em were made. 2+2's aren't rare, here at least, since there were quite a few made (I want to say more than TTs) TT's are WAY more rare here. Verts are a little more rare then TTs.

Ah yes, the question of worth... IMO its all about what you plan to do with the car, if you want a car with plenty of omf for teh dollar and dont plan on doing alot of work on it i'd say a mid 90's TT, but if you want a car that isnt a dime a dozen with plenty of omf and you are willing to work for it i'd say get a 2+2 and do a TT swap (This is what I am planning, I got my 1990 2+2 auto with 150k on it for 3 grand in nearly perfect condition, aside from the rotors being slightly warped and the air condition not working... but im going to replace the whole engine, suspension, and brakes so none of the problems it has matter, i just wanted a body in perfect cond w/o rust or past major body damage) As for how much its worth, its really a question of how much its worth to you, me I was willing to pay more then I ended up paying but the guy dropped like 1200 off the asking price because some guy who test drove it before me put the front bumper down too hard going accross an intersectio not realizing how low it was and destroyed the fiberglass, but that didnt matter I just replaced it with a new one... of course I am most defianently not an expert on the z car but I am a long time fan and zlover...
