performance/driveibilitry

good morning everyone, well i finally got my z back from the stereo shop and i love it (i was going throught withdraws from not driving my z32...lol) and i put in a hi-powered stereo system and i was wondering if i do the underdrive pullies will that decrease the charging system to my battery (alternator??) so my question is should i get the underdrive pullies for everything except the alternator (overdrive?), also i wanted to upgrade my cooling system by putting in a 2-core radiator, and an electric fan, will my car be running hotter than optimal if i also put the water pump in underdrive?

please help me.

Since you have a highpower system and want to throw on pullies then yes it will affect your charging and power

Even doing one pulley on a serpentine will effect everything else. If it is a multibelt system doing one pulley will effect the accessories that the belt you put the pulley on goes to. If you replace the crankshaft pulley with an underdrive pulley, on either a multi belt or serpentine, everything will be affected.

Personally what I plan to do to save weight/gain power but keep everything turning normally is to get lightweight replica pullies made

so even if i upgrade the underdrive pullies and have an overdrive pulley for the alternator (to run the same speed that the alternator is running on now) it will still decrease my charge? also the cooling system i wanted to be sure about so lets forget about the stereo system and help me with the cooling system. also back on the stereo system i was going to put in an optimum deep cycle battery (which charges fast and hold a longer more powerful charge) will that be suffcient for my power needs also i have a capacitor and power cap. installed for my stereo system with a stocked battery, so please give me some info/opinion on that.

ok if you're going to throw on a larger pulley on the alternator you may be ok.

it's good that you're upgrading the battery

as for the cooling system i'll let someone else answer that because im not too sure on the answer

Cooling question

Its kind of amazing, going from a single core to a double core radiator will add a bunch of capacity to your cooling system. also being all aluminium will help dissapate heat a lot better.

Remember your car cools over 50mph by forced air, not really by fan (yes i know the fan turns but its not moving a lot of air) when you put in an electric fan it will only kick on when the heat is above a certian amount or when you turn on your A/C depending on how you hook it up.

Do you spend a lot of time sitting in traffic? I mean more than 50% of your time sitting in rush hour traffic? If so you will have to replace your electric fan motor sooner than you would like. Electric fans only last so long. But it shouldn't affect your ability to keep cool at all times.

There isn't a whole lotta room between the doublecore radiator + electric fan setup and the engine. So Just keep that in mind when you go shopping for fans you will need to get one rated at 2500cfm+ for proper cooling but thin enough to fit the gap. Also it might be a good idea to get a timer for that electric fan so it runs for a few minutes after you turn off your car. Have fun.

changing your crank pulley to an underdrive pulley will affect everything that is attached to it. the other pulleys in the set are not worth buying other than for a cosmetic reason. and as of right now, i believe that the only overdrive pulley for sale is the water pump pulley.

i had an underdrive pulley on my first z, and did notice the headlights dimming whenever i was using my entire system. i believe a good strong battery will work well enough for you. not the capacitor.

thanks goofyZ for the information about the cooling system, i know i don't have enought room but i just wanted to make sure that if i do get the underdrive pullies that my car won't run too hot, so i'm good with that. and B300z right now i have the capacitor and a power cap so that my system won't drain my battery but if i do chance the pullies i just wanted to know if it i loose more energy than i wanted but i will get a deep cycle battery from optima which will charge faster and hold the charge longer so i should be just fine, thanks for all your information guys...

fyi, the stock fan moves more air than any electric fan setup you can probably find.
