i'll take the picture, but i can explain it.

the long little spring that goes from the inside end of the fork, past the ball hinge, then to the slots in the side of the fork. i didn't put the inside end of it inside the little slot. now it's in there.

so you basically didnt have the spring in there at all and i bet the fork fell right off the ball without the retainer clip in there properly. your dumb.

^ You're*

And KasbeKZ... you doubted me... :::shaking finger at you:::

It was Feb, 26 at 11:17pm that I first said "if there is play in the fork, I think something is improperly installed."

It should be about in the middle, just as the picture you posted shows.

after dropping the transmission on my hand today, two trips to napa, and another long and drawn out attempt at stabbing the tranny, everything is now working. i haven't put everything else back together, but the tranny is bolted in and the clutch is bled to the point that it feels perfect on every pump. even the first!

so, in conclusion, i had that spring on wrong. that caused the play in the fork that would require two pumps of the peddle to get the clutch pushed far enough. also, bleeding was getting hard because that slave seemed to be wearing out, so now i have a new one that i like better. it's slightly different. from napa instead of advanced. i'm so happy that i get to drive this beast tomorrow. i hope....

Did you drain the tranny before you stabbed it this time? lol

those little springs can be a bitch. I was doing a TOB for a friend about 3 weeks ago and we kept knocking the spring and fork off on one of the little "feet" on my tranny jack while trying to stab it.

well when i dropped the tranny on my hand, it went upside down and dumped some out of a little vent, so i didn't need to worry about draining it lol.

i have a transmission jack, but i've never used it because it makes it even more top heavy, and the jack itself will fall off the floor jack. i guess it's kindof a half of a transmission jack.

i hope my hand's not broken... can't quite tell yet. i think it's ok though. the swelling went down a bit and i'm able to move it freely. it just is stiff ans sore.

ahh my transmission jack looks like this

should of drained it before you dropped it. =)

We had the spring pop of the fork when we were stabbing last time, like i said it hit the little foot on the jack that's supposed to keep it from rolling off or w/e. we just lowered it and put it back on with it still on the jack..

and if you position the transmission correctly on the jack, it won't be top heavy or anything. center of balance is the drain plug pretty much.

OMG... I just thought of this. The steel pin at the top of the slave cylinder is gone, isn't it? If the rubber boot isn't there, there's nothing to hold it in! THAT is your problem. There is a steel pin that the slave cylinder pushes into the fork. If the clutch was pressed AT ALL while the slave cylinder was off the trans, that will pop out. And if the rubber seal wasn't good to begin with, it could've just fallen out.

I was assuming you had everything installed properly. lol

Plus side - cheap part... something like $28 from AutoZone for the slave cylinder.

Sorry for posting. But that was the first time i saw that.

lol it wasn't the balance that made me drop it. i was laying on my back and turned the jack handle the wrong way. it went strait down, stopped, fell over, and rolled. onto my hand. which is pretty ok now btw. there is a visible dent in the fat part of it though....

anyway, i got to drive it today. GREAT news! messing with the speed sensor connector made the speedo start working again, which, as zlover stated that it may, made the power steering start working properly again! so everything is beautiful! i got my exhaust welded back up, and it looked like a better idea to just cut out all the pre-silencer crap because it was rusty too, so i got all that removed and all nice new pipe put in. i was amazed at how loud it got. it was really obnoxious, so i put my silencers in, and now it's tolerable.

over all, i'm very happy. i ended up fixing two other problems while i did this clutch job.
