Replacing Clutch

I started tearing out parts to get ready to put my new clutch and lightweight flywheel and other goodies today.

i was able to get everything out pretty easily to my surprise...test pipes, x-pipe, driveshaft(yes its a 1 piece 91 ), starter, slave cylinder, the big ole tranny, clutch, and flywheel.

after looking at the disc, i guess the problem i am having is not my clutch. there is still a fair amount of material on the disc. but at the least, now i know i shouldnt have a problem with my clutch for a long time.

i ran into a problem with my lightweight flywheel, and i wont be able to get it worked on until monday. since it is used(got it from z_wrecker) i am getting it resurfaced, but there were no machinging shops open today dammit.

does that even look worn??? im such a freakin idiot. is that a stock clutch?

91...here is the proof of my 1 piece driveshaft...now what brand is it?

oh yea...i forgot to say...thats an RPS 6 puck spring hub clutch. long story...i wanted to get the ACT street clutch, but TSP didnt have it or the RPS street clutch in stock i guess, so they reccommended this 6 puck one. They had pretty good service. I was a bit shakey at times, because it took like 4 days longer than what they said

On the driveshaft,...I'd say Z1.

You'll want to change the rear tranny seal as well.

I thought that the 6-puck were notorious for harsh engagement. You may also want to look into a pilot roller bearing to replace the pilot bushing. IMO, it's better.

crap...i forgot about the rear tranny seal

i already have the rear main seal and NISMO roller bearing pilot bushing....along with the upgraded clutch pivot ball, SS clutch line, and shifter bushingsin the pic....

im gonna start working on those and the clutch line tonight

91, i thought that too, and i told my dad that, and he said that the guy said it will be a bit harsher, but shouldnt be too bad because its a spring hub

yea, my dad was the one who jacked it up and put the stands there
i told him what you guys said, and he just said "no, no it will be fine. its on the brackets anyway"

anyways...went to the machine shop today flywheel will be done tonight/tommorrow
when i asked him about the new release bearing, he said it was too big to fit onto that piece. was i supposed to get a new one of those, or was there a mistake made somewhere?

That is definitely a part that should be replaced. They probably shipped the wrong bearing. Actually, the old one looks kinda small. From what I remember, the 'throw-out' bearing on mine was closer to the same size as your new one. Maybe there's a difference between the TT and N/A and they sent you the TT one by mistake.

Also, looking at the pictures that show your test pipes, it is very clear that the N/A and TT test pipes are not the same as previously stated by [banned member]. I recall reading that and thinking that his statement made sense. He said that the N/A headers cover the same route that the TT manifold+turbo+DO's do. Well, they don't, so he was wrong,...again,...shocker.

yup...96

i went to courtesy to check on if there was a difference in release(throwout) bearings, and it is the same as my new one and says it will fit all 90-96 Zs
i also looked to see if i could buy that other part, but its not on there.

so now i am completely confused...

im gonna have the machine shop guy take off the current bearing and then check up on it again

dammit i wish skully woulda taken pics

also, the flywheel could not be resurfaced...the guy couldnt get the plugs out

did a little cleaning first...

it took us 4 tries and a big boot to get the tranny all the way on. we struggled with it for a while. my dad and i had got it all the way up to the flywheel and then it just stopped. a neighbor came over and we moved it around a bit and he kicked the back of the tranny a few times and it went in.

picturing a 1-piece driveshaft...dunno

a little problem that i found...is that gas?

Yes, that is gas. Remove that heat shield so you can have a btter look at it. There are a couple rubber fuel lines that connect to the hard lines behind that heat shield.

Also, fix your tranny mount....you've got a busted exhaust hanger.

Remove your AIV's. It's easy and it'll save you approximately 15 lbs.

if i have an exhaust hanger by the tranny mount, then its not getting used

can i remove my aivs if i dont have an upgraded ecu?
i definately need to do that since air is still going through and making my car sound like it has a BOV when i shift @ 2k rpms

ok...got 70 miles on it today
it definately grabs. not as bad as i thought it would be, but definately different.
im kinda worried tho...when i let my foot off the clutch in first to and started moving, it shook pretty hard
is that me not being used to the different engagement, or is something wrong?
my dad said it is just doing that because it is getting broken in

i know its not gonna have smooth engagement, but im still a little worried about how much it was shaking.

im hopin to get another 100 miles on it today and see what progress i have

again...forgot to say earlier....the clutch pedal isnt very stiff at all. it feels more like a stock clutch than an aftermarket one. could the SS clutch line be causing this?

will i notice a difference when it is broken in? i think im only gonna go like 300 miles until i let it loose. ive only got 5 more days with my fairlady until i go to college, and i want to take it on one last long ride before i go. all of my driving has been in town, so ive been doing a lot of stopping and starting
