You shouldn't have to reset it.

I would suggest resetting the ecu. I just disconnected the battery while I put the filter in, which reset it. Just disconnect it for maybe 10 mins. The reason for resetting the ecu is because the new filter will have different airflow volume / characteristics. By resetting the ecu it will adjust to the new airflow. When you start it back up, make sure and let it idle for at least a minute.

I would just unplug the battery over night while it's parked to ensure a full reset.

My bad. I referred to a popcharger installation writeup on TT.net and it didn't mention having to reset the ECU. My car was already equiped with it so I have never performed the mod myself.

did the writeup on tt.net mention disconnecting the battery? I usually don't myself, but the fsm, I believe, states to disconnect the battery whenever performing any work under the hood.

No, it didn't say anything about disconnecting the battery. This is the one I refered to http://www.twinturbo.net/ttnettech/pop/pop.html
