short throw problem

1993 z32 n/a

just put my new short throw shifter in. everything seemed to go in smoothly but when i went to test it i couldn't get it to go into 2nd, 5th, or reverse. my tranny engages 1st, 3rd, and 4th just fine though.

any ideas? has anyone had trouble like this? thanks guys.

Well clearly you ****ed up the installation... lol

Go back in and figure out what's binding.

Given (with the exception of 2nd) that the right gears are giving you issues, maybe you have it in backwards...

by the way: i installed the shorty because my stock shifter was getting sloppy because of the worn bushings. my car always shifted just fine but i just wanted to improve the feel of the car.

... you won't know until you take it apart and figure it out...

What brand of short shifter is it?

And did you at least replace the shifter bushings?

Stock shifter will work fine, getting a different shifter, and not replacing the bushings if they were the problem, would do you absolutely no justice.

Most aftermarket short shifters (at least the ones I've seen) come with polyurethane bushings.

No offense at all, but when the thread is basically "I just did this and now this isn't working right," this:
