Test pipes for my N/A

i am wondering if Test pipes are a good idea for a NA? I plan on getting Headers and test pipes also performing the 120k service and adding UD pulley.

I found that kit at conceptz for 670.25 I am curious if I should get all the pulleys for additional HP or would just the drive pulley be ok for optimal HP gains?

test pipes are ok for NA only if you do not have emissions in your state.

UD pulleys are a good idea except in the case where you have exceptional electrical draw, such as having a above stock performing audio system.

You can get test pipes with hi-flow cats, but your gains wll be minimal. Many will argue that the headers aren't worth it either.

91, supposedly, other than nitrous, headers are the best mod you can do for an NA (according to a guy who had a very fast NA in my club....I mean this thing kept up with my stg 3++ TT to a point).

I was going to say that there had to be spray involved.

I was more looking at a cost/benefit analysis. They're a major PITA to install and the gains are still minimal. Stillen claims 21; which is more like 15 RWP (real world horsepower); which would be what, like 12-13 HP at the wheels? IMO, not worth it unless you have to pull the motor already. Plus, as someone said in another thread, "headers + test pipes + HKS HIPER = really loud."

your telling me headers, test pipes, and custom exaust will be a minimial gain....... I would expect at least 12-18hp header back custom exaust?

what about adding the udp pulley?... I have a little stereo system about 400 watts that 's it .
A couple horsepower and a quicker rev!....correct?

what should I do while doing the 120k maintenance?

You'd get maybe 20-25 at the wheels with headers, test pipes and a cat-back. UDP would add another 5 at the wheels. That's a lotta dough for 25-30 ponies. Plus, it WILL be REALLY loud.

Nothing to quieten it at all? could i have an open and close on the test pipes or some kinda bypass!

And the UDP pulley would be an upgrade while performing the 120k What else could I have my mechanic do to the engine while doing the 120k? Cams or Cam gears I have a reasonable budget!

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Electric fan would really be about it.

You could go with a t-stat that opend at a lower temp, but I'm not a big fan of that mod.

Cutouts is what your talking about, and no, it works differnetly than what you're describing. It bypasses the entire exhaust system from about the headers back.

well I am def going to do the headers maybe not test pipes if it will be so loud.

And pulleys while I am doing the 120k.

I have about a grand now and another grand in a few weeks!

Are test pipes and down pipes the same thing?

no, downpipes go from the turbos to the testpipes. The testpipes are pipes that replace the cats. You could just gut your cats for a gain.

N/A's don't have downpipes.

The only thing to quiet it down would be resonators.

yea i have been told test pipes on my NA are not necessary...u dont need bigger downpipes either 2 and a half is more than enough..on Z exhaust its like having 5 inches...u should just get good cat back exhaust that sounds the way u want it to and take out any gay stereo stuff u may have and get an under drive crank pulley...unorthodox says 26 whp for an NA with the pulley..which is a lie but its still noticable...do a pop charger if u dont have one...thats about all worth doing on an NA....look pimp and let girls think u have a ferrari

Unorthodox claims 26 at the wheels?!? It's more like 5.

Again,....N/A's don't have downpipes, so I guess you're right when you say that they really don't need ones considering that they don't have them at all.

Also, if you just want to do the UD crank pulley, you don't need to downgrade your stereo. Downpipes are attached to the TURBO as I said in an earlier post...since you're NA, you don't have them as 91's been repeating over and over. Best mods you can do to an NA is suspension, brakes, styling, and some engine stuff. It's hard to have a fast NA. The guy in my club that had a fast NA had a whole lot of money into his car (he now has a TT by the way), he was also squeezing.

So what exactly is gay stereo stuff?

Let's see, MY audio equipment is mostly black and silver. So i'm guessing it's not the color that makes it gay.
MY audio equipment is fully functional. So it can't be because it doesn't work.
MY audio equipment is top of the line and very expensive. So it can't be because it's cheap.
MY audio equipment is tuned for my car and sounds great at loud volumes. So it can't be because it sounds bad and distorts.

So what exactly is gay stereo stuff again?

lol, I'll laugh at that cuz it's you.

On the other hand tho, i'm just venting cuz i think using the word gay, just to express your dissatisfaction with something is lazy and shows your lack of intelligence. I've met some ppl that all they do is call everything gay because they don't agree with it or they don't like it. Personally i think it's immature, lazy, stupid and ignorant.
Grow a vocabulary.

vocabulary is gay.

but seriously, i agree. it shows a complete lack of thought. with just a little thought, you can come up with a truly witty insult that gets the point across effectively. to just say that everything is gay shows a lack of wit and vocabulary, not to mention immense immaturity. it's unfortunate, but the wide use of "gay" as an insult, expression of displeasure, etc. tells us a thing or two about where society is headed.
