Turbos

Ok i have a question about turbo's for the z..I heard that the turbo's on the z's are made by garret..so i also heard that mitsubishi eclipse turbo's would bolt right on..is this true? if so would it be an upgrade or are the eclipse turbo's the same?

Oh also I heard that the throttle bodies from a 89-91 or so 240 would bolt right up and be better then the stock ones on the z..anyone hear that or have it already?

to be honest, i have heard about the stock 2nd gen eclipse turbo would be a good upgrade to a stock TT...my friend who is a dsm freak says that minor modifications would have to be done...as far as $$$ is concerned...stock dsm turbos are selling bellow $100 in dsm boards w/ low miles on them...so interesting question as i would like to know the answer from our z gurus..

The throttle body upgrade you mentioned is for the Z31, not the Z32. I've never seen anyone put Eclipse turbos on a Z32. I personally wouldn't do it because I don't like Mitsubishi's. If you really want to upgrade, then go with JWT sport 500's or 600's.

I've seen the Eclipse turbos on the TT.
Since the Mitsu is a 2.0 motor, the TT is basically two 1.5's put together, the Mitsu turbos are quite a bit of an upgrade. If you can do the required mods to make them fit/work, then yes, it's doable.
2nd on the throttle body mod, it's for the Z31, not the Z32.

remember eclipse turbos cost less than any turbokits and all u gotta spend is money on fabrications to make it work...im just wondering why someone hasnt made a turbo kit that uses the eclipse turbo..i mean it can make more power than the stock TT turbos and still be very affordable.....maybe below $1500????

maybe even lower than $1500 because you can buy a used, very low mile stock eclipse turbo for about $50-100.

You'll need to do some ECU tuning as well. What JWT turbos come closest in size to the Eclipse turbos? 500's, 530's, 550's, 600's?

You need to know the configuration of the flange on your existing exhaust manifold (t28?) and whether or not the mitsui turbos are the same. if not you'll need to make some adapter plates. ie: I've made adapter plates to mount t3 turbos to exhaust manifolds with a t25 configuration. The only way that I could tell is to measure the hole patterns in both.

Well the 2g Eclipse comes factory with a T25. So if the Z's come with a t28 factory, the eclipse turbo should bolt right up if I am not mistaken. Because from what I understand the t25 and the t28 use the same size housing and flange, but the t28 has a larger compressor wheel. I could be wrong but who knows. Any input? Of course if the Z's do come with a T28, I dont know why you would want to swap to a smaller turbo??? But I am not familiar with TT Z's enough to say one way or the other.

I didn't know what the mitsui turbo was, but I believe you are correct on the t25 / t28 flange.

Hmm..I saw on a web site (which of cource i dont remember which one) but i saw that the Z's have Garrett T22's..it might have been wrong though i dont know..I just know that the T25s should be a pretty good upgrade and the 14B's are better turbos..we will just see cuz i bought the 14B's anyway cuz i got em for a price that i couldn't say no to..lol..worst case, i sell em and buy something different..no big deal

Yeah stock TT turbos are not T28's!!! Some people buy T28's as an upgrade but it is discouraged compared to buying a direct bolt on such as JWT, GMS, AMZ, etc...
