weird problem
Several months ago I had trouble getting the car to fire after beating on it for a while. The car finally turned over. Since then I have had no problem with it until a couple of days ago when it just would not fire. I checked all the fuses and the fuel line after the fuel filter but it would just crank over but not fire. A couple of hours later the car finally started but was running very rich, I assume because I was cranking it with out it firing, and I had a significant loss of power and the car sounded more like a broken Harley or a Subaru. The car will start off and on now and sometimes it sounds o-kay and other times it sounds like crap. I know there has to be something wrong with the car but I not sure since it has not been consistent over the last couple of days. Any thoughts????

there's like so many things it could be.
pull your plugs, check em.
check your timing and crank angle sensor.
Did you do a 60K recently?
Fuel pressure regulator and fuel dampner could also be checked.
fuel injectors?

well my buddy had the same kinda problem, but completly different car. But an engine is an engine. He had no compression in 2 of his clyinders, so his 3000GT V6 became a 3000GT V4 . We'll we never figured out the problem and he sold it i know it doesn't help much but, check your compression cause he was running really rich and sometimes he'd be alright, other times he'd be bad, than eventually it was bad for good. To sum it all up, check your car's compression, cause if your experiencing a loss of power maybe it's cause your clyinder isn't firing, check ur plugs as Rizz said. Check your ECU, might have just been a bit of a flop or something. Ive reset ECU's on few cars with wacky problems that i couldn't figure out, than they were A-okay. So try resetting your ECU, than start going down the list of things rizz said, but a compression test is quick and you can do it while your checking your plugs. But, if it's your plugs, have fun cause plugs are never ever fun to work on, so cross your fingers and hope that doesn't happen. Better yet run by an autozone and ask if they'll hook your car up to the computer to see what readings they get out. All of the ones I've gone to have always done it for free but i think they're supposed to charge like 13 bucks, so give that a go, and that will give you something to work with.

checking for ecu codes is a good idea.
unless the local parts store has a Nissan Consult they won't be able to read your codes cuz the car is an OBD I system. All 95+ cars are OBD II which can easily be read by aftermarket code readers.

go there for ecu diagnostics.
a compression test is a good idea however. The process for that is explained in the online service manual. First link after FAQ in my link page.
