well what RyujiZ said is true...exept you don't meed breaks and suspension...that is for your own safety...you don't have to if you don't whant to...
my Z haz 430....but I would need about $6.000 more to pull it up to 500hp but my engene is new.... custom order.
yours is probably not...so you can't just stick the biggest twin in it and drop huge intercooler with a high flow exhaust...
I'll tell you what you can do....after you give me the milage of your car....cuz if you have over a 100K then you gonna have to replace some stock parts like rods and rings

YES you do need the suspension and brakes...you NEED the suspenion to handle the HP for sure, w/o a doubt, especially for good take offs...and im sorry, but if your out on the road with 500hp w/ stock brakes, you deserve to be shot before even having the chance of killing someone else. z32 brakes are HORRIBLE. my friend has about 156k miles on his stock engine and turbos and he has over 500hp, never had any problems either

not true
to be honest, you do NOT need bigger turbo's for just 500HP, blackztt has hit 500RWHP on STOCK TURBO's, and it will NOT cost you 20-50k in any close amount.
1500 bucks will let you hit about 400bhp right there man.
you do not NEED bigger intercoolers....
i would say MAYBE 3-4 grande till get you up to 500bhp

Re: not true
Okay..
First off running 500hp on stock turbos would be pushing your efficiency and margin for error well below what I would ever consider safe for the engine.
To do it right and not have to run race gas on perfect conditions, and somewhat reliable I would definetly suggest a turbo upgrade.
You are still looking at around 15/20k to get everything done right and with quality parts. Can you do it ghetto style? Probably but would you really want to do that to your Z?
It's your call..

Re: not true
Take a look at the things you would want to really run your car at that kind of power:
Turbo Kit (TD05-16G) would be my suggestion
Injectors
Intercoolers
ECU Upgrade
Boost controller
A/F controller
EGT Gauges
Intake
Exhaust
Test Pipes/Downpipes
Clutch
Brakes
Intake
Test and Tuning
You could do the parts for around 12k, then the odd and in stuff that you may need. By the time you are all said and done I could easily see 15k.

Re: not true
Well...technically...500 bucks or 1000 bucks can let you hit 500bhp if you think about
450 for JWT chip and 500 for NOS kit and 18psi on stock turbos =c) Steamy Z did it on his car for awhile.
according to SGP
JWT ECU 100 bucks
UR PULLEY 200 bucks
JWT ECU 500 bucks
FLYWHEEL 350 bucks
EXHAUST 700 bucks
AVCR and AFC 650
DP's TP's 700 bucks
intercoolers if you want 1000bucks
friend w/ those mods DYNO'd at 410RWHP! (without intercoolers) so figure that to crank and that STOCK turbos running super strong for almost 30k miles with mods.
upgraded turbos and PSI can be over rated if my opinion. like i said, BLACKZTT hit 500RWHP on stock turbos. good friend at stage 2 with ONLY 7psi can run 12's all day long with 160k miles on original turbo's/engine.
in my mind, its kinda insane if you would pay 15-20k to those mods.. those prices i just got came from SteamyZ, who sells them and plus does steamy kits.
so..i would say 5k TOPS for 500bhp,
if you gave me 15/20k to play with engine mods i could get a 700RWHP Z
JUN JAPAN sells a 700RWHP engine out of the crate for only 16k i dont want to do the BHP math to that....
im still trying to figure out whre you have getting the 15/20k for 500BHP....its only 1500 for the 400 BHP kit from JWT man...it wouldnt cost another 15k for just another 100hp...ya know?

Re: HP RANGE
Welp..
I would never consider NOS on my car, so I never include that as a mod. And yes it would be more than 500 rwhp, but if I was going to change my turbos the TD05-16G kit would be the only route I would go.
And with the 550 injectors you are max'd at about 550rwhp, which is about 650-700 at the flywheel..

Re: What mods would you use to get a 500bhp 300zx?
O contriare, people. Apparently you can get 550+ at the crankshaft with the following mods:
intake
exhaust
ecu
test pipes
down pipes
underdrive pulley (faster spool up)
flywheel (faster spool up)
boost controller
fuel controller ( I think this depends on what hi-oc is available)
race gas (in Cali anyway)
This is not ghetto at all. The Z32 is so detuned that you don't need to change the turbos or the engine to get that much power. The total comes to about $4k.

Re: What mods would you use to get a 500bhp 300zx?
George,
I wouldn't feel too comfortable running my stock turbos at more thatn 15psi, the data just isn't there for me to feel it's safe. I definetly would not run higher than 17psi, as most that have pushed 19psi the efficienty goes through the floor...
I'd rather do it within a safe error margin and add a new set of turbos, exhaust manifold, and other little goodies.
Nothing like porting and polishing everything when you pull the engine, I'd rather do it right the first time out the box then push your car a little hard and end up costing you more money in the long run.
Do it right, and you don't have to do it again..
