Sounds like the spring has lost it's "bounce" or the system needs to be bled. Just take it to Nissan.

I took it to the dealer and they told me that the "master cylinder" is leaking and needs to be replaced. Somehow I just dont beleive them. I feel it's just a tension issue. Does the master cylinder control the tension or spring in the clutch pedal?

A leaking master cyl could deffinately do that. Who cares... it's under warranty... let them replace whatever they want.

I would let them change whatever they want except that they want to charge me to "bleed the system". They want $60. Why should I have to pay for that?

You'd better believe it...

My 2000 Frontier Crew Cab blew the BRAKE Master Cylinder after two weeks with less than 900 Miles on the odometer...

$60 is way too much for a brake bleed. it takes like 10 minutes, and material cost is maybe 5 bucks. if it is under warranty, they should do it free. tell them to fix it or introduce them to your lawyer.

Does anyone have any photos of what the clutch master or slave cylinder looks like?

oh man..... the master cylinder will be mounted to your firewall on the inside of the engine compartment (looks similare to brake master which would be right next to it) and will be directly behind the clutch pedal location, the slave is the cylinder with a puch rod attatched to teh bottom of your tranny with one hydraulic line going to it.

I had a 350z that would eat a quart of oil every 700 miles. I had some pretty good mods on it too. CAI, Intake manifold, Headers, Highflow cats, and exhaust. I got the dealer to replace my shortblock. So NO its not okay. Make them replace your engine.

It's your clutch heating, your master cylinder should last a lifetime. I really doubt it's defective. Master cylinders aren't just defective. If your not low on brake/clutch oil it's not your master cylinder. You may have air in your hoses but it's not the master cylinder. Heating clutch. #1 bleed #2 buy clutch kit.

So...I have a 2008 350z touring. I experienced a similar issue with my clutch.

It was getting stuck halfway and I would have to pull it loose with my foot as I drove. When I brought it into the dealership, where I have a maintenance packages, so all the work is done there, they said they couldn't reproduce the issue and sent me off on my way. The next day, I approached a stop sign in 2nd, depressed the clutch, and it got stuck fully depressed. I hit the brakes (with the clutch fully depressed, in 2nd gear) and could not take it out of gear. The car died.

Discovered that the clutch fluid reservoir was empty...1 day after driving off the dealership lot from having it checked out. I filled it and drove it straight back to the dealership and demanded they look at it again!

Finally, I was told there was a leak and the slave cylinder needed to be replaced -- $1020.00 + tax...EFF THAT!

It is still in the shop now because my 3 year warranty was up in June 2011. The service manager is pleading my case to Nissan but his rep isn't back until 1/3/12.

Z-less for a week now...sad...I will post again when I have more information.

Anyone else have more info.

***FYI for those with '07s***
Nissan issued a Voluntary service campaign on the 2007 350z mt clutch slave cylinder

Campaign ID p7252

If you've got an 08 it has the internal slave common to all the VQ35HR's, its a known problem and nissan isn't going to do a thing about it once your warranty runs out... Best option out there is Z-speed's upgraded unit, its pretty much bulletproof and what most of the boosted guys have to run as well. Good friend of mine TT'd his 350 (507whp on 8psi, stock block) and his stock slave lasted maybe a month before he was back in the shop getting it replaced
